Approved outcrosses for the Selkirk (at least in the UK, not sure about USA) are BSH, Exotic Shorthair, and Persian (for longhair Selkirk) so for those not as familiar with the breed that should give some idea of the general type that they are trying to acheive - cobby with a rounded face. I find the Selkirk fascinating as the rex gene in that breed is a straightforward dominant gene, and homozygous cats have poor coat quality, so varients of good type are very valuable in breeding programmes. In the UK you find that breeders of Selkirks almost always breed either BSH or Persian/Exotic too.Originally Posted by GoldenKitty45
Selkirk (not totally familar with standard) but I think its more of an American SH body - medium boned, stocky, rounder head. Selkirk comes in both long and short hair.
