Yes I've been doing subq once a day. The iv she had at the ER vet had electrolytes, vitamin B, and potassium chloride. They also gave her injections of dolasetron for nausea, Famotidine, and buprenex for pain.

When I had asked my vet about A/D she said that the gastritis may have been caused by me trying a new wet food a couple weeks ago, so she doesn't want to introduce another new food.

Considering the problems she's had, that's totally understandable.

Mia is not getting better :(

Last night she vomited twice after I tried to feed her, and this morning (after no food) she vomited a small amount of clear foam.  I couldn't get off work today, so my husband is taking her to a specialist that our vet recommended.  She has an appointment with Internal Medicine at 10:30 but they're trying to get an earlier one.

I'm thinking it's not gastritis anymore since she's not responding to treatment, and maybe it's just a coincidence that her symptoms started when we changed her wet food.  Maybe it's an obstruction that the initial x-rays and ultrasound missed, or maybe it's cancer.  I think they are going to test for those today.

Oh, poor Mia :( And I'm so sorry you have to go through this as well. Hopefully they can figure out what is wrong very soon so she can start to get better.

They were doing an endoscopy on Mia today and found a hole somewhere in her GI tract.  They "don't think" that they caused it but don't yet know the cause.  She is going in for surgery now.  My husband has been on the phone with them since I'm at work.  I'm so scared for her :(

Thank you. She's still in surgery, I don't know what's taking so long.

They are almost done but we talked to the vet who did the Endoscopy and he did cause the hole. He said it has never happened before and her intestine must have already been weakened or something. They biopsied everything and can see nothing wrong with her...no obstructions and no inflammation. We won't get the biopsy results for a couple days.

what an honourable vet, it is nice to see someone step up and admit their mistakes. I hope that they take that into account when the bill comes. Get well Mia !!

Oh my goodness! That's horrible that happened but glad they are admitting it. I know things can happen when the body is already compromised (happened with my mom when she got an "aggravated" nerve during a hip replacement). Hoping she'll be doing better after this. Do you know if they'll be putting her on a feeding tube while she heals?

Thank you! Yes she is on a feeding tube now. The hole / tear was in her duodenum just past her stomach so she now has a j-tube in her small intestine somewhere. They just said she is doing well and we can visit her tomorrow. They have to keep her until Wed or Thurs though. I'm so glad she made it through the surgery, we were so worried.

Poor little Mia has been through so much, but she is a little fighter and so is her family. I hope that now the path to a full recovery can start.

That is great that she is doing ok after the surgery! Do they think this was the cause of her vomiting?
They still don't know.  They biopsied everything during surgery, so those results will hopefully come back tomorrow.  If that doesn't tell them anything they will probably say it's gastritis / IBD and try treating that with maybe something stronger than before.  We realized last night that her best day was on Friday, which was right after getting a steroid injection on Thursday for inflammation.

We got to visit Mia in the recovery room tonight. She is doing pretty well and was happy to see us. She turns her head upside down when she's happy so that's why it's like that in her picture :)

I think we can maybe take her home tomorrow if she is still doing well today.  They are still monitoring for any signs of infection.  We're going to visit her again tonight.
