Well done!
GREAT news all around!
VERY GOOD NEWS! Sammie is FeLV and FIV negative, her temperature is normal and she has put on almost 1lb in weight in 6 days! Medication to continue at a reduced dosage for 6 days and back to the vet in 8 days. Luckily, it's okay for both medications to be crushed into food as any other method has been impossible.
As far as the shaved area is concerned, the vet said it could have been a lumbar puncture or an abscess on Sammie's back or a few other things BUT she says the patch was shaved no more than 3 - 4 months ago. This knowledge will be a great help in finding the vet who treated her and hopefully her owner.
Sammie did not lose balance or fall over when we put her on the floor to show the vet the symptoms we had described! She had one little almost wobble but the vet said as she seemed okay in herself, not to worry too much about that. There will be time to investigate this further and maybe I can do a video to show exactly what happens.
I've seen lots of videos now of sweet little kitties with CH. The cats themselves don't know they have a handicap and their lives are not shortened because of it so it's not a problem if this is Sammy's condition. But my greatest wish is to find her owner. The vet has agreed to help me try to trace the vet who shaved Sammy's back, a little reluctantly but still. Onwards and upwards!
These are exactly my thoughts and hopes. If I lost one of my cats, I would hope someone would do for them what I've done for Sammie. Even the most attentive owners can have accidents like those described above. We must remember that not everyone is internet savvy, especially (French) elderly people. It's a matter of trying to find the owner by means other than the internet which can be a slow, laborious, hit-and-miss process.
Honestly, if we put ourselves in someone else's shoes, that this is their cat, maybe escaped out of a carrier when the door wasn't latched correctly, upon returning from a stressful vet visit for instance, they might be just heartsick for their baby to be home. I KNOW I would.
It does not sound to me like anyone who owns this cat, paid costly vet bills, etc would simply abandon her. From all the evidence, and her starved, weakened state tell a story to me that someone out there loves her a great deal, and isn't sleeping at night without their cat safe at home with them, and she somehow got herself out there and lost, thankfully finding a guardian angel as the OP clearly is
Anytime a cat goes under general anesthesia there is a risk, but vets can perform tests where they can say that "there is no increased risk that I see" but age remains a factor and I would discuss the pro's and con's with your vet before committing. Also, a second opinion is often helpful. If you put 3 vets in a room together, you will often get 3 different opinions, not because one is right and the other is wrong, but because medicine is as much art as it is science. And as such, the decision that you make is also an "artistic choice" in a sense, and better to see 3 paintings before you pick your favorite.
Hello again. Sammie is doing fine and is slowly being integrated with our cats (no sign of owner and we're very attached now). But I think she's just come on heat. As she's ten years old, would it be dangerous for her to be sterilised while she's on heat? The vet gave us an appointment for the op on Thursday but I'm thinking now it might be better to wait.
I mean the cat obviously has health issues
