Amber is better too, after a week on oral and local doxycycline. His eyes are clear and he is eating OK, though bored in his cage. But I am not going to let him mingle till he has been on it a month - I did it too soon with Bluebelle and the infection came back. It is a really nasty one. I wonder if chlamydia and mycoplasma often go together - I must look it up.
Glad that Amber is feeling better and I too, hope that he continues to completely recover! :vibes: :cross: I do think that both Chlamydia and Mycoplasma do go together because when I google it they both come up at the same time and most of what I have been reading says that they do go hand and hand. I had asked the specialist if I need to run another panel to see if Perla is fully recovered. She said that if she is not symptomatic then we will know. If she flares again, then we will probably have to run another UR panel to check. I am really hoping this will resolve her symptoms and I am only glad that we finally have an answer as to the cause. It will be wonderful for her to feel healthy for a change !!!!! :rub: :heart2:

p.s. I should pull up Wendall's thread and update to keep everything recorded. :lol3: BUT - the Terbutaline is working for his asthma !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: SO FAR... :cross: and I hope it continues. :cross: No coughs and no wheezing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I did the same thing! Though I also an impression that they are mentioned together because they are of the same family of viruses and respond to the same antibiotics.

It has been TWO YEARS since I have updated Perla's thread!!! Still dealing with her weepy eye and at times conjunctiva inflammation. Added in Lactoferrin about 7 months back along with the Lysine. Much improvement was seen after the introduction of the Lactoferrin. Laurie @LDG brought this to our attention via this thread :hugs: :bigthumb: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/267703/stubborn-herpes-infection-add-lactoferrin-in-addition-to-lysine

July 4 - Perla had a very, very serious flare in BOTH eyes. Never before has her right eye been infected. It has always been the left. Extremely inflamed conjunctiva in both eyes with greenish drainage. No other symptoms. Took her to her eye specialist on Tuesday this week, Dr. Denise Lindley. She recommended at this point running the Upper Respiratory panel http://www.zoologix.com/dogcat/Datasheets/FelineRespiratoryPanel.htm Since this has been a chronic issue for a few years with no good response to herpes treatments, she wants to look at other diseases.

The results came back today. Perla was negative for Herpes BUT that does not mean she is not a carrier of the virus as 80% or more of cats have the herpes infection lurking according to the vet. Perla was positive for both Chlamydia and Mycoplasma........ I can't believe that we waited this long to run this test. I feel bad for her but now we can treat her accordingly. She will be on Doxycycline for a month and this should help tremendously to cure her - hopefully. Not saying this will surely fix her eye issues BUT should help so very much. :cross:

...
I know this is an older thread, but I'm very interested in it. Milly is having some eye issues, she's been on azithromycin for nearly two weeks, and it has only marginally improved her swollen/irritated eye corners, though it's helped in other ways. Just before we started the azithromycin, she was getting green discharge out of her right eye, although both eyes have "eye corner issues".

Question: after the treatment of azithromycin, it seems you did a treatment of doxycycline. Did the doxycycline help to clear up her eye issues (conjunctivitis, any swelling around eyelids/eye corners, weeping eyes)? What are your thoughts on 2-weeks of these antibiotics versus 4-weeks as your vet recommended? (Milly's issues seem much less severe than Perla's, I think, but Milly is just 7-8 mos old and I worry about future ongoing issues with her eyes.) Thanks in advance!

That is exactly what Bluebelle had when I first took her in. It took several weeks to diagnose it. I too thought it was herpes. Eventually a biopsy discovered the presence of both bacteria. She needed a month of doxycycline, was clear for a month and then it came back. So one more month of meds and since then she has been clear for a year.

This is good info to have; thank you, JennyR.

I might have to prepare myself for this process (doesn't the doxy cause a lot of diarrhea? sigh)
