So i just wanted to post my experience, as it was FAR different from any of the videos i watched on YouTube of cats in labor!
I had calculated March 27 as Jax's due date, but figured that could be as many as 5 days off either way. The night before, she became INCREDIBLY affectionate and would not leave my lap/side/stomach etc to the point of jumping into my lap while i was peeing! However she didn't show any signs of distress, wasn't pacing or "nesting" yet at all, so I researched the behavior and gathered she was within 48hrs of giving birth.
The next morning, on the 27th, her behavior remained consistent. She might have became a bit more vocal, but I felt no noticeable contractions, she wasn't breathing heavy or "panting" - just super affectionate. When she followed me into the bathroom again, I laughed and pushed her down when she tried to climb into my lap. Then to my shock, she let out one LOUD scream and laid back to reveal a slimy kitten half way out already!! And about 60 seconds later, she contacted and out popped baby number one!
I had seen so many videos of cats struggling to get the first kitten out, and since Jax is exactly a year old and barely 6-7lbs, i thought she would have an even harder time. Yet this kitten practically fell out of her!
I felt terrible that she was laying on the cold bathroom floor!! Once the kitten was stimulated and trying to suckle, imoved them both into a layered up blanket and picked them up to move them somewhere Warmer and more secure. Jax had 2 more healthy babies, each about 2 hours apart exactly.
And she's in heaven with them right now! Hasn't left the nest for the first 36 hours so far, except twice to eat, drink, pee, and say a quick hello to me. Then she's right back to her kittens and kneeding (sp?) her paws contentedly =) I'm glad there's only 3, i already have homes for all of them, and I'm really happy Jax was able to experience being a mother at least once - she couldn't be happier!
