Saw an ad on CL for a Male Ragdoll... clicked on the link and this is what the ad said:
beautiful 3year old male ragdoll cat, 4 paw declaw, fixed, needs to go, we have and dog and unfortunatly the cat wont get along with it, so i can't have him peeing where he feels like, he is box trained, but because of the dog, he wont go to his box, would be great for home with no dogs, he is very friendly loving cat $50 rehome fee,
So I am thinking ... well... maybe they haven't tried working with the cat. I have seen that quite a bit in rescue.
So this is what I wrote:
Instead of trying to get rid of the cat, why not try to solve the problem?
Here is some advice:
Inappropriate peeing can OFTEN be a sign of illness. And in cats, stress can induce urinary tract infections. Take him to the vet.
Then:
First, get some Feliway diffusers. This is good for inappropriate peeing. And reducing stress in a cat.
Then - get some enzymatic cleaner like Nature's miracle and a black light (pee glows in the dark) and TREAT the pee spots thoroughly. I mean really soak them.
Get some Dr. Elsey's Cat attract litter or litter additive and put it in his pan.
Make sure you spend a lot of time with him. Is the dog new or is this an ongoing issue? Does the dog "bother" the cat?? Train the dog not to.
Hope that helps.
I suppose it's easier to just dump the cat, but if he is sweet and you love him, try these things.
This is the answer I got back, censored for the foul language:
GEEE THANKS ALOT FOR MAKING MY CAT SOUND LIKE ITS SICK, CONTRARY TO WALT DISNEY, SOME ANIMALS DONT GET ALONG, THE CAT IS IN PERFECT HEALTH, THE DOG IS TRAINED, I HAVE OWNED ANIMALS FOR 36 YEARS, I THINK I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING, I'M NOT GUNNA SIT HEAR AND PLAY CAT WHISPERER WHILE MY HOUSE BECOMES A LITTER BOX, IF YOUR SO SMART, WHY DO YOU PAY THE REHOMING FEE, TAKE THE CAT, AND PUT HIM IN A HOUSE WITHOUT A DOG, AND WHAT DO YA KNOW, HES JUST FINE. OTHER THAN THAT, MIND YOU OWN
BUSINESS!!!!
Here is what I wrote back:
No offense intended and the foul language was not necessary. Good luck rehoming the cat. Sounds like he would be better off with a different owner.
You encounter some of the nicest people (NOT) on CL trying rehome pets, etc.
I would be tempted to just go get the poor cat, but I have no interest in dealing with the rude creature who wrote that message or giving him my hard earned money. I feel very, very sorry for the kitty... who is a beautiful seal bi-color. I have pics if someone wants to see them or may be interested.
