So Sandy is going to be 17 years old this year.
She is doing fine for an old gal.
Sleeps more during the day and early night.
Still gets up early, 5:30am, and expects me get up to let her go outside.
She comes back in after a little while and wants to go back to sleep.
I have noticed her fur is matted in places.
I brush her to take it out.
Found that it was from her thick saliva.
She never had it before.
Doctor said her teeth and gums are doing fine.
Forgot to ask about the thick saliva.
She eats and drinks water fine.
No real bad smell from the mouth.
Any ideas??????

HI. I agree with Furballsmom Furballsmom that it might be worth mentioning to your vet. If she is not drooling also, then she might be over grooming. That overgrooming could be because of 'stuff' she gets into when she is outside, or it is not saliva but still involves something that she is getting on her fur when she is outside that she is obsessively cleaning off. Are you absolutely positive it is saliva?

I presume she has had a full geriatric check up, including full scale blood testing, just to make sure there isn't something going on that might not yet be presenting itself openly, other than the matted hair.
