Thank you, Ariana, yes, I feel that would be so much better!

She just gets so nervous and upset, Pat, but yes, that seems very extreme. I feel like a bad parent whose child has been expelled from school and won't be allowed to return unless I bring her in, but only at the end of the day, and btw, she has to be in a cage, too.

oh good grief - no no no this can not happen!!! Poor sweet Sierra is going through a rough time as it is - she doesnt need any more extra stress that would certainly occur should you put her straight in the cage. I know you have said she gets stressed at the vet - but how many pets dont? she doesnt get nasty though does she? yes like Pat said I seem to have missed something here...

to you my friend - you stand up for what you believe is the best for Sierra - we know you will
and whats more - we will all stand beside you

hey there S & S,
man, how awful! how dissapointing. Stephanie, forgive me please, but what is an omnicage? I just read that word for the first time. Can you wrap her in a blanket so she can be with you but with much less chance of her flailing around in their opinion? This little sunshine has been through SOOOOOOOOOO much. Is there any way to compromise with other "props" outside of a cage, I wonder.

Thank you, Sandra!

That is a great point, E, thank you for that. I believe I'm calling it the right thing, it's little cage that pushes in on the sides so the kitty can't move or struggle and they can perform the exam or give medication.

YO! No. Totally unacceptable!
Do you think they would go for the blanket wrap if you held her? Sasha never struggles when he's warm and wrapped in my arms....I know how critical Sierra's mental processing is to you with all of this. Sheesh.

Oh Stephanie i would tell them to blanket wrap Sierra as well
Shes only a cat not some wild animal!.

If anything i would have thought it would stress her more being put in a cage?!, where as at least she has you there comforting her

Well I hardly think confining a nervous and upset cat fixes the situation

I like the suggestion of the blanket wrap

I wish I could offer some advice. I don't know how your vet's office or how far away they are from your home, but I have a friend who somehow gets the vet to do house calls. I'm certain she pays for it, too.

One thing about George that might help Sierra (but you are the best to see if this will work)......... We used to have little cardboard cat carriers (and still do) that were supplied by the vet's office. It's small and of course with George at his size , it was not very stable. We bought a regular cat carrier - not soft sided. Oh he hissed and screamed, tore his nose up, spit. Just worked himself into a awful state. It was horrible. I didn't know what his problem was. The next time we needed to take him, I just stuffed his big 'ole body into a box carrier that he is familiar with because this is what we had always used and he likes it much better. It's only got quarter sized holes (about 4 on each side for ventilation) so I think he feels very secure because he really can't see what's happening. Here is what they look like:

I just didn't know if you had tried a carrier like this before. If George is just getting a shot, they just open it up, let him stay inside where he feels more secure and then close the top back up and we are off.

You are so right, Pat.
Thank you, Danielle.
Chris, this may be an idea to really consider, thank you so much for suggesting this.

There is no more appropriate manner in which to describe this visit but horrible. It was just absolutely awful. First, on the way there, Sierra got sick. She threw up all over her kennel.
So, we stopped and she got in my lap while I removed the upper towel leaving a nice clean bed where she then just sat and cried a little cry. Then, the traffic was bad, so we ended up getting there 5 minutes late.
When we got there, the Tech took us to our room and told me to take her out of her kennel and put her straight in the omnicage. I told her how I felt about that and that I would like to try it the way I desribed last night. Anyway, they finally agreed, and Sierra was fine with me holding her. She even sat on the scale just fine. Then, the Dr. came in and she immediately said, that she would try it this way, but as soon as Sierra acted up, she's going in the cage. She showed it to me and it really looked like a normal cage, and she said all they do is give her the vaccine between the bars and it doesn't scare them. She said they use it all the time. I still wanted to just hold her though, of course. The Dr. came at her so abruptly, though, and just reached out her hand and put it on her head to pull up her lips to see her teeth. I think this scared Sierra even more and she started growling and hissing, the Dr. was talking loudly saying You're going to hiss then, Sierra, or something like that. Then, she said just hold her then, and pinched up her skin to give her the vaccine, and Sierra went nuts. She peed all over me and even scratched and bit me rather badly. Then, they opened the cage and said here, put her in here, and I just sat her down, and all the sudden, they pushed it together and stuck that needle in her back leg. All I could do was say "Oh no! Oh no!" It was all so fast, and poor Sierra was horrified!
That was awful, just awful!
They left the room and told me to get her out. She came right out and we sat in the floor and she just laid her head on my shoulder. She was so scared.

Then, the Dr. was mad! Well, I was all upset trying to calmly express my thoughts about that cage and how this had gone, quite decided this was nolonger our Vet. Then, she said, "Well, I'm done with her then, and noone else is going to want her either!" Can you believe that!
I was just trying not to cry every since the cage episode and althewhile trying to not let her see how much I was bleeding so she wouldn't be able to say anything bad about that, and I just didn't know what to say. I wish you weren't upset was the best I could get out which seems pretty dumb now. I'm really disappointed with this Dr. If this was my first experience with Holistic Medicine, I would be appalled by the entire practice.
Poor baby, I held her out in the car for a while, and then on the ride home, she cried in her little sad voice. When we arrived home, she walked around nervously at first, and now she is sleeping, but she won't eat. She's just so upset, my poor baby.
This has just been awful. Please don't think I let this happen, I didn't mean it to be this way at all. It was all just so fast, and this has just been awful.
Sorry to write so much.

Stephanie....I am so sorry
I am sorry that I don't recall, but is this the same holistic vet who in the past, imo, has been rude and wanted things done just so?

If so, she's simply not the right person/vet for you or your sweet Sierra.

The comment about no one else will want to deal with her is NOT TRUE. Think about it, you know the range of doctors you work with, that any nurse has worked with. There are those who truly love what they do, they turn their back on NO patient, and there are vets who are the same. This "vet" is not a professional in my opinion, and no matter what, she's not worthy to touch Sierra or have her care in her hands.

I am furious...such an attitude has no place in a vet or human place where care and healing are supposed to be the goals.

Oh Steph, I am sooo sorry! What a horrible thing for both you and Sierra to have to go through!

If that vet said that he was done with her, then good... I'm glad... that means that Sierra and you don't have to deal with him anymore. And he says no one else will want her? That is not true... I'm sure there are pets that act worse than Sierra (not that Sierra acts badly, she was scared and provoked)... I can't believe this Dr. actually works with animals on a regular basis.

I'm with Pat - I'm so mad for you! I'm glad you're done with this vet and I know you'll find one who is so much better to both of you...

That is horrible.
I can't believe the vet treated you and your kit so terribly. I don't blame you for not wanting to go back. I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience.

I really agree, Pat, I should have known to not go back to her. This was the only place Sierra could get the Purevax, though, and I really wanted her to receive the safest vaccine. I thought it would be better than this.
Thank you so much for your comforta and support.
