Ring worm or a hot spot

I have a kitten with this spot on the back of his leg. Is it ring worm? Or possibly a hot spot?

It’s hard to tell just by the picture and without a culture or PCR. My kitten has ring worm on his tail and honestly I assumed it would look round on his head or body but nope. You can also try shining a black lamp or wood lamp on it and see if it glows blue. But about half of the strains that causes ringworm doesn’t respond to it, only some will glow.
