Really really want a lap/cuddly cat - considering getting a 2nd one

Hello there, I know this is an old thread but I was wondering how you are doing with your cat now 2 years later and whether you got another one? I ask because I could literally have written your original post myself. I am a first time cat owner of a beautiful 8 month old female Maine Coon, who is sociable (with family only) and playful but absolutely does not seek out physical contact at all. She tolerates it for a few seconds but won't stay on my lap, in my arms, rub herself against me when I come home, butt heads etc. She will follow me around quite a lot but is more comfortable keeping a safe distance. I have done everything 'right' and tried all the treats in laps tricks etc. but I just think this is her personality and I find her 'rejection' so upsetting. I too am looking into getting a second cat.
