Do you celebrate your birthday? If you do, how do you usually celebrate?

My husband's birthday is the day before mine. We usually go away for our birthday but due to different circumstances we aren't this year. Yesterday we went out for breakfast and my husband decided he wanted a quiet day at home with Thai takeout. We've been out to breakfast this morning and I'm not sure what else we are doing today yet.

Happy birthday to both of you! :bday:

For Rick, I'll take him out to dinner at the restaurant of his choice. But I also will make him a birthday dinner with the food of his choice. The girls always give him a birthday card. Sometimes (it's rare) I may buy him something, but usually we don't do much in the way of gifts.

For me? Well, Rick will usually take me to dinner and I choose the restaurant. But my birthday is in January and we can usually count on snow or sleet or freezing rain. (It used to be so bad that I swore I was changing my birthday to June!) For several years, we bought a prime rib roast at the butcher and I made it, complete with Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, etc. for my dinner. And I make my own coconut cake for dessert and share it with my sister. Last year, though, I made lasagna because that's what Dear Richard wanted. And again, we rarely do gifts.

Happy birthday to you and hubby! :bday:

There's never a set plan. Sometimes I travel--last year I was in Mexico City for my birthday. But sometimes it's dinner with the kids and grandkids, and some years it's nothing at all. It totally depends on how I'm feeling when February rolls around.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! 🎂

No, not really.. I usually have to buy an expensive item around that time and before Christmas as My B-day is in November. I justify the expenses as B-day and/or Christmas gifts.

Sometimes, If I feel like it, I will go to a restaurant for a meal.. Or I will buy myself something special at the bakery. If I stay home, I will just try for a peaceful day, with a meal that I like--even take out (pizza usually), a dessert that I like... and just relax...

Maybe this year, depending on the weather; I can walk down to a local beach restaurant, sit at the bar, have a drink and order a meal.
I do not know.. it is still a far way off...

Not really. It's just another day. I usually grill a nice ribeye steak that the girls and I share. We don't know when their real birthdays are so we decided that they would share DD's birthday. They get a new scratching post and some catnip toys. I also make something for dinner that the three of us can share like a roasted turkey thigh or a steak.

Yes, and what we do is different every year. Sometimes it's just getting takeout with hubby so I don't have to cook, and sometimes it's getting together with others for a dinner. My parents always get me a gift regardless if we get together or not. They'll somtimes just drop it off and it's a quick hi/bye/thanks and other times we do lunch or dinner. It also depends on when my Birthday falls. I'm a Mother's day baby, so Mother's Day/Birthday combo get togethers are common too.
I don't really like being center of attention so big parties or big to do's that are all about me, singing happy birthday and all that is not my jam....and if anyone ever decided to have a shindig in a public place and sing happy birthday to me, would probably die from the daggers shooting out of my eyes.

At some point around my birthday I will celebrate with my son and his girlfriend. For a number of years pre COVID I did a casino trip on my birthday. It used to be to Las Vegas, then just an overnight at a local casino. I am now down to just a day trip to a local casino for a few hours.

Happy Birthday(s) to both of you!:bday:

There are still people I worked with who want to celebrate birthdays, so we go out to lunch or breakfast. Total is about 15 people, so there is always a birthday. We cut out Christmas entirely and now just have one dinner at a nice restaurant during the holiday season.

Happy Birthday to you both!

I don't have parties for myself, but I do like to go out to dinner for my birthday. We generally also celebrate with my side of the family and have cake. It doesn't need to be big, but aside from when I turned 30 and was so unhappy with my life at the time I didn't want it celebrated at all, I think it's good to do a little. I think it's good for my kids to see that Mommy and Daddy should get celebrated, too.

My birthday is just another day for me. My mother told me I was too fat and that I did not need anymore birthday cakes. So I quit having birthdays. Sometimes I'll have pizza or Chinese food delivered but that's it.

Happy Double Birthday! :bday::celebrate::party3: How was the Thai takeout food?

My parents made a big deal out of our birthdays so I'm still a kid at heart and enjoy celebrating. As a result I did the same for my own children. Even though they're grown now they enjoy their birthdays too. I like to go out to a favorite restaurant as well as order a special dessert. DH and the girls give me a gift they think I would appreciate. 🎁 We celebrate our pet's birthday(s) too.

Happy Birthdays!

I haven't bothered for years, not since my group of friends in the 90s moved apart. My sister phones me (we live nearly 2000km apart) and I might get a card from a current friend and well-wishes from my knitting group, but that's all, and that's fine.

Happy birthdays!! :beerchug:

I do celebrate it but not usually with a lot of fanfare unless my kids create it. Last year I got a surprise party because it was a "big one" and I even got surprised by my dad, stepmom, cousin and her family coming from out of town. I was having a lot of hard things go on around that time and seeing my dad walk in sent me over even before I saw my cousin. I do NOT like crying in front of people. And I typically don't care for the attention. But it was nice. My stepdad's elderly father even came from a couple hours away and my stepsister with her 5 from several hours away. So it meant a lot that they wanted me to have a party; even if I was ok with just having a nicer than usual dinner.

For my kid's birthdays I decorate their doors with crepe paper and sometimes balloons while they sleep. A few years ago they got big enough to extend the tradition to me and now I look forward to it as much as they do. :redheartpump: We often do special birthday breakfasts like cinnamon rolls or something. One year DD was too young to cook so she cut up a banana and added a torn up slice of kraft american cheese. :flail: Somehow I managed to get away with her not knowing I didn't eat it! :flail:

DH and I also have close birthdays so some years we combine our celebration by eating out. Normally he will pick up some kind of takeout on my actual birthday too. Since my kids came along there has to be some kind of cake/dessert. My mom moved so I guess that's on DD now. Fortunately my mom trained her well in the kitchen.
