Good almost-afternoon!
I forgot about the QOTD until I saw Rigel's thread. Sorry.

Today's question:   What's your favorite mustard? How about ketchup?

I love Grey Poupon, although we keep French's yellow (we call it ballpark mustard) on hand, too. Right now I've been working on a bottle of Honey Mustard for my pretzels (I can't eat pretzels without mustard). Yum. For ketchup, it is Heinz and Heinz only. It's a law around here or something.

How about you?

Hmm, I don't think my boyfriend or I have any specific brand loyalty to ketchup or mustard but by default we tend to grab French's mustard. We have some dijon right now, but I loooooove honey mustard for sandwiches and stuff. Same goes for ketchup. We're pretty easy going about it, but Heinz was on sale last time we went shopping so I grabbed a bottle of that. Before that, we just had a store brand.

I remember when they came out with purple and green ketchup when I was growing up. I got a bottle of the purple once. That was kinda weird. I'm not entirely surprised that wasn't a massive success.

I will say this...  We are picky about both.  Heinz for ketchup, for sure.  But neither condiment will we EVER buy generic.  I don't have a problem with generic items - often it is a great way to save a little change.  But generic ketchup is yuck!

Grey Poupon or Inglehoffer...it depends on what I'm using it for.  I almost never eat ketchup, and I can't recall ever buying it.  My family did, but since I've been on my own I can't think of an instance in which I bought it.

Funny story that ketchup reminds me of:  I was living in a real dump of an apartment complex, and I'd been complaining that I felt someone had been in my apartment when I was at work.  The management kept assuring me that this was not possible.  I made a point of leaving my TV on some obscure channel when I'd leave, and when I got home it was changed!  Again, the management blew me off saying this wasn't possible.  One day I came home and someone left those little paper cups of ketchup on my table next to my recliner.  I don't eat ketchup.  I scooped them up, took them to management and threatened to call the police.  The look on their faces...priceless.  We found out it was their maintenance guys.  I moved and have questioned the stew out of any place I've rented since then.

I can't stand mustard. Don't like the look, taste or smell. ugh.

For Ketchup- Heinz' unsalted. I had to use unsalted when I got my iodine treatment. now regular ketchup is too salty!

It depends on what I'm eating.  I think brown or horseradish mustard are my favs.  But sometimes good ol yellow mustard is the way to go.  Yummy!!!

Brand wise Grey Poupon is probably my favorite.  For ketchup Heintz.  I'm adamant we do not buy any other brands; no matter how good the sale.

YUCK! :nausea:
I can't stand either.
I have never liked Ketchup... Mustard I've tried on a few different occasions. NOPE.

I eat my hot dogs with cheese, mayo, dill pickles, onions and sometimes hot banana peppers. Hamburgers get cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, dill pickle and mayo.

i use both ketchup and mustard. i'm not too particular about the brand/generic, only that it tastes good.

for ketchup i buy the brand aldi's carry. for mustard, i always keep yellow mustard on hand and i like great value brand from walmart. i really like the spicy brown, course ground mustards and do buy them very occasionally. i've always got my mind on my budget, and upcoming home improvements i need to save for (i always pay cash for my home improvements, i don't need to pay interest too).

i prefer each for different things. i don't particularly care for ketchup on my hot dogs or hamburgers, i prefer mustard. i do love ketchup with my french fries though, and i top my meatloaf with ketchup.

Mustard: no preference, depends on what's available and what I'm eating.

Ketchup/Catsup: I don't eat it, I can't stand it. I find it disgusting. Funny thing is, I love tomatoes & barbecue sauce. My wife prefers Heinz.

I rarely use ketchup but I found some chipotle ketchup at the store and love the taste of that.  I can't stand that yellow French mustard but love Dijon.  Just found some chipotle dijon at the store yesterday and bought some, can't wait to try it!

For yellow mustard, I buy the store brand.  I used to stick only to French's, but I don't anymore.  I have to watch the pennies.  I will get Dijon Grey Poupon now and again for a variety for the hubby.  There also an old fashioned very grainy mustard--very expensive--the name starts with a T.  We are TITANIC-o-philes, and in April, I try to recreate some of the last meals.  This type of grainy mustard is an ingredient in one of the recipes.

As for ketchup, I am less interested in that, but buy Hunt's of the store brand for hubby.  We try to not buy Heinz, because of it's connection to John Kerry, who served in Vietnam and got three purple hearts for what were essentially paper cuts.  Meanwhile, my BIL had to jump from a burning helicopter and broke his back--he was the only survivor--no purple heart for him.  'Nuff said there.

I do like to used Cross & Blackwell's seafood cocktail sauce in meatloaf.  The horseradish in it gives a little zest to the meat.

Right now I have a store brand spicy mustard.  I really am not a big fan of mustard but I am trying to replace mayo on sandwiches with the spicy mustard to cut down on fat.  I still prefer mayo but I am getting used to the spicy mustard.  I don't care for yellow mustard at all, I know I couldn't make that switch.

I don't use a lot of ketchup either so I just get a store brand for that as well.

I spread mustard on bread thinking it was peanut butter when I was staying with people.  I was so embarrassed I ate the lot, pretending I always did it.

I have not eaten mustard since.

I adore an Harissa a friend of mine makes.  Yum.

I don't use a lot of mustard but always have in the fridge. Only the grainy french dijon mustard. I can't remember the make.Has anybody tried mashing some into mashed potatoes with your butter etc.

Only Heinz spicy tomato sauce and I love to mix it with Heinz light mayonnaise. I have that with most of my meals that include french fries.

Mom told me more than once that when I was very young, she used to find me sitting behind the couch with a big jar of French's yellow and a teaspoon. Evidently, I've loved mustard from a very young age. To this day, I love to scoop mustard on a slice of bread, like many people do with peanut butter. I just love the stuff.

Oh, Judy, yes! Mashed potatoes are delicious with mustard! With horseradish, too, BTW. I add a good dollop of mustard to my dressings for both potato salad and for macaroni salad.

That's a good idea. My girls make a dalad dressing with it and honey and soya.

I can't find proper horseradish. Only the one with beetroot in which is jolly mild. We use it at the passover grandmother used to make horseradish with beetroot that would blow your socks off and clear your nostrils on it's way down. It was wonderful and I've never tasted any other like it. Her pickled cucumbers were to die for.
I used to eat golden syrup with s spoon. Can only get it in specialised shops and not near me. Yummy golden syrup.

We grow our horseradish up in the garden; years and years ago, my aunt gave us some roots and we planted them. Early spring, Rick will go up and dig a root for me. Then I grind it (outside, on the picnic table!!). Add some vinegar and a wee bit of salt and put it in glass jars. I didn't get any done this year and, while the horseradish hasn't bolted yet, it's now way too hot.

Yes, freshly grated horseradish will clean out your sinuses!

I'm not a big mustard fan. The only ones I can stomach are stone ground mustard, preferably with horseradish. I think the only mustard on the house right ow is one we bought for Aaron, a Stonewall Kitchen blue cheese mustard.
