Dear Sadie, Dexter, and xocats:

Interesting.
Sheesh -- whatever happened to just plain FOOD?
As someone whose diet could be categorized mainly as Asian in origins, I know the health benefits of soy and rice; contaminants, from whenceever they cometh, are quite another matter.

Dear Beandip and Crew:

Yes, I heard -- thanks for posting. Will it never end???

Sounds like you're in the best place on earth, too (under a pile of cats, that is!) I tell everyone I'm a Hot Rock for cats and on a good night, I can draw as many as eight -- Maryam is the holdout, but we're working on her

Several Itchmo pages of Cat & Dog food that contain Rice Protein Concentrate posted by individuals who have found it on various pet food labels.
Some are repeats...
others list just rice gluten.

There are quite a few different companies & formulas that may or may not have contaminated rice protein concentrate.
If you have questions....
call the company.

Good luck.

FWIW, some info I found on this trade site indicates that in pet food, RPC is sometimes known as "rice gluten meal" or "isolated rice protein". I don't know how reliable that info is, but probably better safe than sorry.

Thanks for posting that....
I just asked that question in the health forum...
So.....RPC might be the same as rice gluten?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Edit.....
I just found this article in today's China Daily.com
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/lifesty...ent_854596.htm
Wilbur-Ellis Co the company that sold the contaminated RPC has asked that all companies who used the contaminated RPC recall their food.
Why the silence?
For what this is worth....in Nutro's update from today...
they say they did not buy from the company who supplied the tainted RPC.
Here's their link....
http://www.nutroproducts.com/mfrecall.asp
Pat...I really feel for you.
We are all confused.
I hope that your food is not involved.
EDIT:
Corn Gluten alert....
I just received an e-mail Corn Gluten warning from Itchmo...
Their main point is ....
"At this point, we believe that all corn gluten should be considered at risk for contamination and should be tested by every pet food manufacturer and the FDA."
Here is their page.
http://www.itchmo.com/read/melamine-...esses_20070419
This is a nightmare....
Pet and Human food is not safe.
That is the bottom line.
I did go out and buy something different...betting that the one I chose, royal canin mature 27 would be okay since the recent issue is only in food shipped overseas, but now I am not sure I want to feed it.
Instead, I think the fact that Nutro states they do not purchase from Wilbur Ellis, means I can stick to what I was using as a dry food for my guys.
So...back to Petsmart to return the royal canin...ugh. I hate this whole thing, nothing is feeling too safe except various canned food and some treats.
I know my guys would love to live off treats but that isn't going to happen ;-)
Dear Mom:
Thank you so much for posting this update, and it's wonderful to see someone with a larger cat family than ours -- kinda reaffirms my faith in humanity, knowing others out there open their hearts and homes to so many sweet felines. Wonderful names yours have, too -- it's clear that you, like I, cherish the Cat!
