It's a quarter to 8am and Oscar's vomited twice. I'm getting really worried about him.

have you checked out this site?

http://www.felinecrf.org/

There is a wealth of information about so much to do with vomiting and kidneys-there is some information about diabetes-but maybe you can read over the sections about vomiting and what to do about it-because There could be any one of reasons for vomiting. If it doesn't stop then you will need to bring him in. I cant tell from the computer what it is but I can tell you its uncomfortable. They will give him a shot to stop the vomiting then probably blood work to see if one of the levels is off-that's the best thing you can do-don't wait for another day to see if he gets better. Keep us posted.

He's stopped vomiting, though he's also stopped eating. Usually in the mornings he's famished.  I'm getting increasingly worried.

I've only had him since December so it's only been 2 months, but I'm so scared for Oscar's health. He's so sick and skinny and old... I am always in fear if he's in any pain.

Silly cat, making me cry out of worry at 9am.

Have you checked his hydration? Its what I call the tent test-the fur/skin at the scruff-pull it out gently and let it go-if it snaps back in place he has hydration-if it makes a tent or slow to return then a vet visit is in order-they will give him subfluids to help with rehydration and an injection to stop nausea-also they could do inhouse bloodwork for about $100 to make sure his levels are ok. I suggest giving the vet a call and let them know what is going on.

My vet suggested to feel my CKD cat's gums instead of doing the skin tent test. She said that older cats have less elasticity in their skin so the test doesn't work as well. Instead I feel my cat's gums, and if they feel like mine do (like a person), then she's hydrated.

If Oscar is dehydrated he will not eat-vet visit. When a cat is dehydrated they feel yucky. I promise you I have had very sick cats-the Sub fluids they give at the vets help! And they can set it up where you can do it at home if this will a routine thing-often times if he has diabetes they will want to keep tabs on the kidney values-yes of course you are scared! And this is not the end!! he just doesn't feel well! We all know what it feels like from vomiting. Not pleasant-they can help him feel more comfortable-once the fluids absorb then he should want to eat-do you feed wet food?  I would take him in for some fluids and blood work. And getting some basic blood work of his sugar and kidney values will be able to help figure out why he is vomiting. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason. I totally understand your fears. And keep us posted,. Call the vet and let them know what is going on-check his hydration and see what you find then let them know-they will probably want to see him just to make him more comfortable-sub fluids are a real help in my sick kitties. Don't know why but it always perks them up!

Does anyone know how to draw blood for blood glucose tests? His ears are too frayed and his paws doesn't seem to have much circulation through them.

Update: I called the vet and it turns out Oscar is, indeed, anemic.

Update 2.0

As of 1/25/2016, about a month since I've taken him in, Oscar is...

Diabetic
FIP+ (suspected)
FIV+
Anemic
Malnourished
Underweight

10+ (guessing ~13)

and...

Has broken and infected teeth
Has sunken eyes
Has weak muscles

He drank some water and almost immediately puked it out.

How sad, I'm so sorry....

He's had such a rough life. This is the result of being dumped/left behind, just tragic and so unfair.

Oscar knows he's loved, and has been given help and comfort by you, so you have made the end of his life so different then it was, you need to feel at peace with this.

We can't undo the past and what has happened, only today and the future.

If Oscar has stopped eating now and can't even hold water down, it's time to let him go without further suffering.

Food is very big to a cat, especially with an appetite as he has had, so when that stops, they are feeling really crappy, and if there is no chance of him having anymore feeling good day, it's okay to let him go.

Many hugs to you for your courage and compassion to him.

I've been fearing the time was getting closer. I didn't expect it to come so soon.

I may go to a specialist to see if there's any way at all to save him, but if there isn't... We'll save him from further suffering.

I thank you all for all the help and support you've given me and Oscar.

Sending positive vibes and hope. Keep him warm and comfortable. That's all you can do. He looks very happy with you. YOU gave his last days so much better than what he had. Sometimes our everything isn't good enough-as a last resort=try bbabyfood=meat ones like chcken or turkey. See if he will lick it off your finger-have the vet give him subfluids and pain meds for his teeth. See if the babyfood stays down. Then prepare yourself. If that is the end. I am so sorry!

Thank you. He's sleeping on my lap currently. If I have to let him go, I want to make sure these last precious moments are good and comforting ones.

absolutely. So glad you brought him in. If he is sleeping then just let him be-did you end up finding a different vet or did you take back to the same place? Or did you just do a phone consult? So glad he is resting. Thinking about you two.

The poor thing can't even hold down water anymore... I just changed it this morning, too.

I just found a new vet, but their office is closed today. So I called the current one. We have yet to confirm with the vet if it's time for pts.

He hasn't even sniffed at his food. He used to come running if I so much walk in the general direction of his food bowl.

No, they're completely full. I have an appointment for him tomorrow for his glucose curve. We shall see then.
