Winnie is fine - very healthy! Growing fast!

The new kittens' weights are good too!

Kitten #1 (4.5) needs a minimum of 36 mLs each 24 hours, or 3 mLs per feeding every 2 hours.

Kitten #2 (4.0) needs 32 mLs each 24 hours, or 2.7 mLs every 2 hours.

Kitten #3 (3.25) needs 26 mLs each 24 hours, or 2.1 mLs every 2 hours.

I think you can switch to 2-hour feedings now that I know their weights. They can always have more food, but this is their minimum. It will increase daily as they gain weight.

You are feeding through the night, right?
yes I am and do you know an accurate way to measure millimeters. If they don't want to eat is that when I use a syringe?

Your kitten bottle and your syringe should both have mL markings. Check to see!

Yes, if they are not latching to the bottle, you need to use the syringe.

Are any of them latching? How well have they been eating so far?

Like I said, their weights are good, so switch to 2-hour feedings now. They may not be hungry every hour.

Or perhaps the bottle or syringe are marked with cc's.

Or tell me how you are measuring and I will convert it for you.

the syringe probally is but the bottle is tablespoons. you don't know how much I appreciate you, the support has been very helpful for the 8 kittens I'm taking care of (oh I am fostering 4 kittens that are now 6 weeks old through my local shelter). How do you know so much? Do you take care of them often?

I've had cats and kittens all my life! [emoji]128571[/emoji]

It's my pleasure to help.

Please check your syringe, and give me a few minutes to do the conversions on your bottle.

In the meantime, tell me how each of the new kittens is doing. Who is taking the bottle well and who is not, and how much they are eating.

Also, wash the nipple between kittens!

I need to wash the nipple between the new kittens or Winnie and the new ones? I haven't been washing the nipple between the ones in the same litter. I have always been told it doesn't matter. So together they eat less than a half tablespoon. I will start feeding them seperate this next feeding (I also need to go get the syringe)
the 4.5 oz one eats good off and on like the last feeding he ate but the one I just did he didn't want to eat
the 4.0 always eats and suckles very well
the 3.25 one always has trouble eating. He turns his head away a lot and will occasionally chew on the nipple.

I recommend washing the nipple between each kitten regardless.

Yes, you need a 1-2 mL size syringe right away. I'm concerned for kitten 3, the runt. He needs syringe feeding! Go to a pharmacy counter. Get a couple of them. You'll see how much the syringe helps.

I am supposed to get goats milk tomorrow (a store is holding some for me), should I get it? Do you think it will benifit the kittens if they drink a little of it daily or should I just skip it? Sarthur2 Sarthur2

I would not add goats milk into the mix. The powdered PetAg has probiotics and everything they'd need in it. If they are all tolerating it well, don't change anything on them.

There are 14.78 mLs in a tablespoon. So, one-half tablespoon = 7.39 mLs.

This tells me they are not quite getting enough, and we have no way of knowing who is getting how much.

Even using the bottle, the syringe will be best for putting the amount each kitten needs into the bottle.

And also using the mL syringe to feed the runt so we know for sure he is getting enough, whether he wants it or not. He is apparently not suckling well yet.

I think you should buy it and freeze it in case you need it for a future kitten over the summer.

However, do not use it at this time!

Alright - great!

Now go back to my Post #121 and feed the amounts I stated for each kitten.

Feed the runt first with the syringe because he needs it most!

Let me know how it goes!

Put some honey on his gums before you feed. He needs the blood sugar.

You put drops in the side of his mouth. He will not latch, which is why you are using the syringe to insert the drops in the side of his mouth.

Yes, put honey on his gums!
