They are doing great! Your smallest already weighs nearly 5 ounces, while your biggest is at 6 ounces. Very healthy kittens so far!

For reference, kittens should weigh 4 ounces at one week; 8 ounces at 2 weeks; 12 ounces at 3 weeks; and one pound at one month. Yours are well on their way to surpassing the minimums, which is a good thing.

They may level off a bit here and there, which is also normal.

How is mom? Has she tried any extra foods yet as suggested?

Thanks, these are good numbers to see!
Yea, mom had a new brand of cat food and enjoyed it along with some yummy boiled chicken breast shredded. She’s doing well and seems a little more comfortable.
She actually nested for the first time last night.

The gains are terrific!

I assume this is from rotating during the day and leaving them all together for a few hours at night?

If so, even the smallest is doing incredibly well.

And is mom still getting extra, such as boiled chicken?

It’s still early days, and I was very worried with 8, but you are managing quite well thus far. Kudos, and I hope things continue to go this well.

If so, eyes will begin to open in the next week or so. Short-haired kittens’ eyes tend to open earlier than long-haired. Good news on the ears!

It’s all very exciting!

Thanks for your help! I would of been lost without everyone in this thread. Yes two groups of four are rotating two hours throughout the day, and mom Is getting all the food she can handle.
Excited for the milestones to start! This is day 6 btw

B: 181(+18)

D: 183(+14)
E: 206(+11)
F: 175(+14)
G: 182(+14

Mom is well. she walks a few feet away, stretches, and does a little lap a couple times a day now. Seems a little more comfortable with mom life!

If momma literally stretches, its not sure she just streche because she needs its; streching in cats is often greeting a friend, here - greeting you! Yawning is another gesture to a dear friend.... This is not wellknown.... But since I noticed this on my first residents, I see it confirmed time and again on all other cats I have met and see online and in reality...

E is a little pig — he is the size of a two-week old already! Nothing wrong with that. He’s just a growing boy. All weights are fantastic. Nice job!

No concerns at all — F weighs just over 7 ounces. He’s almost the size of a two-week-old! They are all doing great!

Goals are 8 ounces (226 grams) at 2 weeks; 12 ounces (340 grams) at 3 weeks; and one pound (453grams) at 4 weeks — then about a pound a month thereafter until grown.

Greetings everyone. It’s been a busy week, but rotations are still going well and everyone’s being weighed twice-daily.

A: 263(+20)
B: 254(+18)
C: 286(+18)
D: 295(+15)
E: 317(+20)
F: 270(+20)
G: 299(+14)
H: 283(+14)

three questions:

1. Everyone’s eyes are starting to open! One cat’s left eye has re-closed though. Should I intervene?
2. What shots does mom need before I can introduce her to our house cat? I have no reason to believe she’s had any shots
3. Flea season is starting in my neck of the woods. What’s the best treatment for mom while she’s nursing?

Thanks again, you all have been my guardian cat angels!

Weights are excellent! All continue to exceed the minimums.

1. Yes, if an eye re-closed, it needs wiping gently with a warm, damp cloth to soften the pus or crust that has “glued” it shut. Do this several times daily until it reopens — like a compress. If you’re seeing crust or pus on any of their eyes, wipe gently and ask the vet for a tube of terramycin eye ointment.

2. Mom will need all her shots and boosters if you believe she’s had none. You can start that with mom when the kittens are 8 weeks old and begin their vaccinations. However, if your resident cats are up to date on their vaccines, and mom appears healthy, there should be no reason that your cats should catch anything from her.

3. You can put a tube of Advantage II for Adult Cats on the back of mom’s neck now, and the kittens can have Advantage II for Kittens at 5 weeks. Wash all bedding regularly in hot water to kill flea eggs and larvae, and vacuum regularly also to prevent infestation.

Hi everyone!

Tomorrow is three weeks!
This morning and last nights weigh-ins are alarming though. Half the litter gained only a little weight in the last day or so. Everyone is latching, playing, and walking around. No one seems more lethargic than the others. I've given the four that gained only a little weight more nursing time with mom today. Do I start supplementing? Can I introduce Nutri-Cal, or wet food?

This morning's weigh -in and 24 Hr Weight change

A: 351 (+12)
B: 359 (+6)
C: 369 (0)
D: 411 (+10)
E: 400 (+4)
F: 354 (+12)
G: 392 (+10)
H: 366 (+3)

thanks all!
