Uh oh....
I was watering the garden on Friday night and some tiny, tiny, tiny bug decided to bite my foot! I flicked it off and blood started to drip down my foot - it must have had a great meal.

Anyway, when I woke up yesterday my left foot and ankle were the size of a balloon! No kidding.... I took some antihistamene and put calomile lotion on it... it's still massive tonight and not really gone down much
I can't get my flip flops on either because of my elephant ankles...

Oh it's funny

If you don't go to the er, try soaking your foot in some empsom salt water....but you should see a doctor!
Hope your foot gets better soon.

That was my first reaction when I read this - what you have described sounds like a severe allergic reaction, esp if the antihistamine didn't take care of it!!! A welt is normal, a completely swollen extremity is NOT!

Please see a doctor today!! Let us know how it turns out. I had a severe allergic reaction to a wasp I stepped on - couldn't walk for two days it swelled so bad! I've since had allergy therapy and carry an epi-pen.

I went to A&E this morning on the way into work - to find that it had closed down and moved all the way up past Kings Cross... So I went to Boots the chemist and spoke to the pharmacist - she said exactly what you guys have said, go to the docs...

I have an appointment at 5.45pm today - couldn't get an earlier appointment and couldn't get an appointment at the weekend cos they are not open....It is still swollen and is actually more painful today. My calf is now puffed up. It's my own fault, I should have gone to A&E on Saturday morning... *sigh*

I shall let you know what happens

It was a beetle type thing - tiny though and I think it had greyish spots on it

I am no infectious disease specialist but my stints in the ER tell me this could be an allergic reaction, a bite by an insect that suddenly is toxic to your system, or a really severe reaction. Keep icing it and wash it as often as possible (I am sure you are already doing this, it is kind of "well duh, <g>). Have you taken beandryl? It may be a stronger antihistamine and will help the swelling as will the ice of course. If you have some betadine, put some of that on to make sure it is not infected - that can also cause swelling but it is not usually. If it is an allergic reaction, you may need stronger than benadryl like an epi pen or something of that nature. They may also give you steroids - not sure if the protocol is all thjat different there.

Good luck! Let us know what happens! (There is no ER near you???) Did they close the King's Cross one due to the bombing or do you know? (I noticed Kiong's Cross mentioned twice in the new Harry Potter book - sorry bout veering off here, just curious).

Keep icing it - your foot, not King's Cross (It is ONE of those mornings!!!) - that will keep down the swelling.

But you likely need an antibiotic

Thanks Cyberkitten, I think I will stick with the Piraton antihistamene for now as I have been taking it since Saturday morning - I am going to docs tonight so I don't want to mix medicines until I have further advice. I have been using ice and keeping it clean etc but I guess I will need an antibiotic to zap this!

The A&E near Kings Cross is closed because they moved it somewhere else
not to do with the bombs thankfully

I had to force my flip-flop onto my left foot
Luckily, I keep a pair of slippers at work (yes really!) so I was wearing them today....

Anyway, been to doctors only just got home. He said that I have an infection and has prescribed a course of antibiotics and also some hydrocortisone cream to put on the area as well. I have just taken the first antibiotic and I will take another one before bed. Amazing how quick this cream works, I have applied it and already have near instant relief!

Thanks guys, I shall update you on my progress during the week and if something like this happens again, I will go straight to the docs/A&E ...

Actually Fran, I got so embarresed in there because he was looking at all the other medication that I am on, incl. the pill and he kept on saying, "if you have s... please use barrier methods or refrain for up to a week because the antibiotics will make the pill not work etc" He kept on saying it and I think he was getting embarresed as well. Then I said, "the pill has really messed up my cycle" so he said, "oh it might be too early yet, but come back in a few weeks for a pregnancy test"... I was like
There is no chance.... and he kept saying it so I said, "urrrr I have not had a relationship in a while so there is no chance I can be pregnant!" lol
