I have to say - I think I may be switching vets. The first vet that I've been seeing got me all in a tizzy about Stoli originally. They just weren't very appropriate in how they handled 'telling' me. I was recommended a vet that makes house calls as Stoli is just so stressed.

When we first saw the specialist vet she came in laughing, despite everything that had happened to Stoli. She said, 'you've got to hear this. the vet faxed over all stoli's information and this is what they said: stoli is nervous and aggressive, and is best handled asleep.' what a nice way to sum him up!

well he did have to have anesthesia on Monday for the bone marrow. But today he didn't. The specialists figured out that stoli worked better when he couldn't see - so they had a special cat mask and wrapped him in a warm towel and drew his blood. it was great. he came back and we played with his mouse while waiting for the results. He was great with the doctor when she came back in and now we are home and happy.

It just is such a relief to see stoli acting his usual self. he has been quite love-y lately. and he lets strangers pet him for a couple seconds now. I think he may realize that either the vet can make him feel better - or not everyone is out to get him, just the vet.

I'm so glad Stoli's fine!

Are you going to be using the mobile vet from now on? And in the end, was there ever a diagnosis? Do they know what caused the white blood cell count to fall so low?

And is he still on the Prednisone? Tuxie wound up having a disease where his body thought his red blood cells were a virus and attacked it. He was on Prednisone, but it stopped working, and they switched to Depo-Medrol (a long acting steroid that is given by injection).

I guess what I'm asking is... is this something similar, where if he goes off the Prednisone his white cell count will fall again? Did the vet (old or new) recommend he have his CBC checked again a couple weeks after ending the prednisone if he is stopping to have it?

Sorry for all the questions. But we were so close to losing Tuxie, I get worried.

Mostly I'm so happy you have your Stoli back, happy - eating, drinking - and healthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you so much for your concern. Stoli is still on a pill a day dose of Prednisone - We are getting his CBC checked on Friday. If he is ok - we'll be slowly coming off the steroids and we'll be sure to check his CBC a couple of weeks after coming off. There was no final diagnosis but I'll keep your post in mind! I hope it was just some random fluke of nature.

As for the vet - I am taking Luxor to see the vet I like (at the same practice) to get his ears checked. . . .But I am going to look into the other vet for Stoli's 1 yr. check up.

I am SOOOOOO happy they were able to help stoli get his blood drawn with out putting him out. It's amazing to me that this vet was able to just let him hang out, put a max on him , let him chill for a sec and wrap him in a warm towel while they drew his blood. . . .why don't all vet's do that???? (I don't really need an answer)

Well,

Stoli had his 2 week check up CBC and the results were all normal. except for his lymphosytes. they are still elevated. We are going to wean him off the Prednisone for 2 weeks and then 2 weeks completely off before checking again. Any idea what this could be? The specialist mentioned something about inflammatory but she said she wasn't concerned about leukemia. . .
