She's coming out tonight! (Knock wood!)
I just got off the phone with Gary, and he just informed me that she called a little after 4:00 and they talked for 1 hour and 48 minutes. (I might not have made it clear, we got her a prepaid cellphone so she could communicate with us more easily).
Bottom line - Gary had the "you said you wanted parents not friends" conversation (again) with Naomi, and she's coming out to stay with us, not her friends. He said she sounded resolute and committed. He said (through happy sobs) that she really sounded like she's beginning to believe this isn't some junkie dream she's having, and that SHE came up with a long list of reasons to live and to do what she needs to do to move along in her life - and to listen to her heart, not her head or the junk.
I just booked adjoining hotel rooms close to the Doctor's office. She plans to catch the 8:00 bus (which puts her here at 9:20ish if she catches it. She rarely catches the bus she says she's going to, but - again, knock wood - she's never not arrived the night she said she was going to, it's always just been an issue of the time of arrival).
Gary's parting words were "I really think she wants to live, Laurie, I really think she wants to live."
I'm terrified about tomorrow. Imagine how she feels. OK - I've got a few hours to go get it together and think "mom" and get over (or at least around) this fear!
C'mon Naomi - you can do this!
