We're doing it....finally. On the way back from Philadelphia today, we stopped at an HH Gregg store in Harrisburg. They have the exact same Samsung fridge that Lowes is selling for $3500. Their price is $2429. It's like a pre-Black Friday thing. That's a great savings! I've read some good reviews about HH Gregg, plus both my niece and my nephew bought all of their kitchen appliances from them and they're very happy.
http://www.hhgregg.com/samsung-31-c...oor-french-door-refrigerator/item/RF31FMEDBSR It's 31 cubic feet instead of the 32 cubic feet that I wanted. I'm not going to squabble over 1 cubic foot.
So Rick and I talked about it on the way home. The sale is good until Nov 30. We're driving down this coming Friday night after work to pay for it. Then that Sunday, Rick and my BIL are driving down to pick it up. The store does not deliver to our area because we live too far away.
They also have 5% discount if you put it on an HH Gregg card account. We don't have one, but we are thinking about opening an account, putting the fridge on it, and then paying off the bill entirely when it comes. It would be the same as cash, so there would be no interest or anything like that. And we'd still get the discount. 5% of $2400 is $120....that's almost like having the sales tax already paid. PA has a 6% sales tax. Another way to look at it is that the discount would help pay for the gas to go down and bring it home.
We can move the old fridge out of its spot to over between the living room and kitchen and keep it plugged in there. Then once the new fridge is running and cooled down, we can transfer the stuff from the old to the new one. And then shut the old one down. I'll clean it up and we can call our electric company. They will come and take the old fridge.....and give us $25 for recycling the old fridge. I was thinking of putting the old fridge in the basement, but geez, we have two freezers down there now. I don't think a fridge is necessary.
Hopefully everything will go smoothly.
