Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, because it's been 3 years since the vet told me this, but I think you grasp her face with your pointer finger and thumb on either side of the back of her jaw (where the jaw mucles are) and apply gentle pressure to get her to open her mouth. Be prepared though, she will only open it for a quick second so have that syringe ready to stick in!

Val please get this kitten to another vet- this is not something you are equipped to handle. Neither is your vet- please call a feline vet and take her in now. What she has could be fatal and you need a professional who knows what the devil they are doing!

We are going to have to take her to a different vet tonight. Am I doing the right thing? She only wieghes 3.6 pounds right now. I feel like i'm toturing her. She cries when i touch her and she is breathing so heavy. Hubby keeps saying he wants to try to save her, I do to, But I don't want her to have to suffer like this if we can't save her
Does anyone know of any good feline vets in SOUTH NJ?

When my daughters kitten was sick this past Dec. we took him in to the emergency vet and they thought he had either hemobartonella or FIP. He was very anemic. They gave him IV fluids and a blood transfusion, since he was so anemic. They also put him on doxycycline in case it was hemobart. and i think a steroid also. The blood transfusion helped him alot, but it turned out to be FIP in his case though. Im not saying in your case its FIP but maybe the hemobartonella or something along that line, since she had all the ticks when you guys found her and they could cause the anemia. Did they give you any more meds for her to take? I too had to syringe feed this little guy, and it wasnt easy, my vet scruffed him to feed him, but I just made the food a little mushier and put the syringe in the side of his mouth and squirted just a little bit at a time till he would open and it did take a while but he got it down somewhat. Im sure hoping she will be ok and you can find a vet that will know what to do. She is probably really stressed right now and I pray that she will be ok.

my vets are on that list
how do I know who is any good. Maybe we should just take her to the U of Penn. They are supposed to be the best.

That poor little girl! She's lucky to have you as her angel. I am so concerned for her, yet full of hope. Sending lots of love to you and Isadora.

I would take her to the University but you will need a referral- one of your vets has to refer her case to them. At least that is how it works here in my state.

Good luck Val- i am pulling for both of you-

Val I know the Univ of Penn vets have an excellent reputation. Not sure who is good in your area, though.

How far are you from Hopewell NJ? My friend Heidie used to live there and had a great vet. If it's near you, I will call her and get the name/number.
