I came home tonight from work and no sign of the cat. I had our daughter prepare the carrier with a towel and I had the food dish ready. By 6:20 still no sign of the cat so I called the vet's office where I was supposed to take the cat before they take it to the humane society (which is a no-kill shelter
) and told them the cat hadn't shown up and I didn't know if I'd be able to get it and get to their office before they closed at 7 pm.
Just as I said that, who shows up in the yard but the kitty.
I grabbed the food, called and it came over to me. I went inside and got the carrier and put it about 2 feet away with the door open. Kitty started to go away and I enticed it back to the food.
I then picked it up and put both food and cat in the carrier. It tried to get out and turned facing out but I just gently pushed it back in and shut the door. Rushed to my car and headed out to the vet clinic. The cat was quiet all the way there. While I was waiting for my turn at the clinic, the cat sat in the carrier and finished eating the food so I assumed it wasn't totally traumatized.
When we transferred the cat to one of their cages it was such a sweety. It was nervous but never hissed or tried to scratch or bite. The technician felt it all over and informed me it was an intact male. They said they would take good care of him and that I could call the shelter to get updates on him. I was in tears. I put my hand through the wire and scratched his chin and neck and he pushed against my hand for more.
I sit here with tears in my eyes knowing that he may now have a better life and be in a warm, loving home. Thank you all for your prayers and vibes - this baby deserved them all.
