Well, she's a prett sick kitty, whatever caused her fever is going to make her feel punk for awhile. Glad to hear her fevers gone down. That's a start!

Hope tomorrow brings better tidings. Wish you well.

Gosh, I am so sorry to be reading the updates on this thread
.  But at least her fever is going down.  And 3 oz is a decent amount since she isn't feeling well, at least in my book.

that tomorrow she feels better and better, poor old girl.

She is not doing very good, unable to get the liquid medicine into her anymore, so going to probably go pick up some injections to give her.  I can barely get the tramadol and cyproheptadine in her, she is a fiesty little bugger.  On another note my baby kittiy (Tiggles) is not feeling well either, she hasn't eaten for the past 2 meals has a slight fever 102.8, and is refusing treats :-(  Good thing my dad is just up the street and around the corner.  I have an appointment later this afternoon when I get home from it I will be taking her up to see my dad.  On top of that my hubby was in the ER last week with chest pains which turned out to be a severe kidney infection.....it's never ending at my house.

So back from seeing my dad, since I am 'sort of' able to get pills into DeeJay we are switching her to Chloramphenicol for her antibiotic, if that doesn't work we will resort to twice daily injections.  I feel so bad as medicating DeeJay is so traumatic for her she has been pissed off and hiding ever since I gave her the morning dosage.  She has feline herpes so when she was younger we had to do a lot of medicaitons for her, I am compeletely unable to get any type of eye ointment or drops into her nowadays.  Tigger has a throat infection, probably caught it from Munchie so onto antibiotics for her as well....what a fun day at the Thompson Zoo :-)

I did have a question though, my dad is not super familiar with using the Cyproheptadine as an appetite stimulant, he had some in his pharmacy as we ordered some for DeeJay a while back for her obsessive hair pulling.  How long can she safely be on it?  Is it something she could be on long term?  She is doing really well with the itchiness/hair pulling so we were thinking of keeping her on it long term for her allergies.

Next Question, I have a "Hepato support" and reading up on Pancreatitis have read that sometimes they are put on Milk Thistle to help, would it hurt to put her on it?  I am not sure if she would detect it in her food or not.  She's pretty smart about stuff.  Here are the ingredients:

Milk Thistle Extract 100 mg (EMed-MT premium providing 80% Silymarin and 30% silybinin)
Inositol 20 mg

Choline 20 mg

DL-Methionine(pharmaceutical grade) 20 mg

Pantothenic Acid (calcium pantothenate) 10 mg

Vitamin B-1 (thiamine) 5 mg

Vitamin B-2 (riboflavin) 5 mg

Vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) 5 mg

Alpha Lipoic Acid 5 mg

Vitamin B-12 (cyanocobalamin) 10 mcg

Inactive ingredients: Gelatin, glycerin, silica and water. -

I can't answer the question about the Hepato Support, but I could make a suggestion.  Since your father was a Vet, why not let HIM pill DeeJay for you.  That way she won't be upset with YOU, but rather with HIM.  Could that work?

If she continues to be pissed off at me I will maybe consider running her up to my dads to let him pill her, although not sure he will enjoy being woken up at 6:30 in the morning to give my cat a pill
.  I work the next 4 days (10 hour days) so she will have some time to 'cool ' off after I give her the morning pills.  She will stay in my office with my other kitty Mini dee (who can't have full access to the house when I'm gone because she pees on my couch), so she will have full access to a can of food while I am gone.  She didn't eat anything for breakfast but this afternoon she ate a 2.75oz cup of Fish flavored Meow Mix (not the best but right now just trying a smorgasboard of foods to get her to eat anything).

I don't know anything about the appetite stimulants, for some reason Patches has never been put on them.  That could be because I went to some vets that weren't very good.  The first time he went to this vet he was hospitalized with fatty liver and came home with a feeding tube.

Milk Thistle is good for the liver.  A really good supplement for cats is one called Denamarin.  It's a combination of Sam-E and milk thistle extract.  Patches took it when his liver enzymes were slow coming down after the fatty liver.  It does have a protective coating on it so it gets through the stomach whole so no crushing it, it has to be swallowed whole.  It also should be given on an empty stomach to increase the chances of it making it through the stomach intact.  I got it from the vet but it is OTC and I have seen it on Amazon.

I remember the last thing Patches would quit eating was those yellow cups of Meow Mix Market Selects.  I kind of have a weak stomach when it comes to weird smelling food, I often try to hold my breath with some of the kitties canned food.  I remember those were particularly bad, that's probably why it was the last thing he quit eating.

Just got her to eat about 1 & 1/2 oz of Canidae Pure Chicken, Turkey & Lamb.  I had to warm it up as it was in the fridge, but I'm gonna take it :-)  She will spend the night in the office with more of it, hopefully she will eat more.  She is more active today and doesn't seem quite as pissed off at me, she did sit in my lap for a little bit earlier.  I just want my baby girl to get feeling better, I feel so helpless.  I agree the meow mix cups are very smelly, which is probably why she likes it, I think she prefers chunky food over pates.

Going to have to start coating her pills in butter or cream cheese or something, she becomes a foaming/frothing mess for about 10 minutes after giving her the pills now :-(

Not on her, it takes my husband scruffing her and her on her back for me to even attempt to get pills into her mouth, with the pill shooters she is so fast at fighting the pills that I can't get her mouth open and the pill gun in her mouth and down her throat easily.  She literally is the WORST cat I have ever given pills too, and believe me with work and owning kitties I have given my fair share of pills to kitties.

Here she is glaring at me about 15 minutes after giving her the nightly pills (she has 3 pills now)  Do you think she is a little bit pissed off?  LMAO

Wow, my eyes burned just looking! Poor old girl, she's got a mind of her own, doesn't she? What a personality! Reminds me of a queen suddenly subjected to a body search... :/

Better to laugh than to cry. Sending many prayers still!!!!

Have you tried using gel caps? Pilling my guy has become almost a non-issue since I discovered gel caps. I don't know why vets don't recommend them straightaway.

Same here. I could not pill Sebastian as much as I do if it wasn't for gel caps. He immediately starts foaming at the mouth and shaking his head no matter what it is. I purchased both # 4 and # 3 gel caps through Amazon (made by the Empty Caps Company). The higher the number, the smaller the gel cap. # 3 is standard for pets, but I like having # 4 around for "small jobs."

Well I wrapped some old Synovi G3 (joint supplement) chewables that I had for a previous dog around her pills and dropped them down her throat while she was on her back, no frothing!  I will have to check into the gel caps for her that is a really good idea.  But for now I know that the Synovi helps, it doesn't have any ingredients in it that she can't have so maybe it will help her joints while we're at it :p

Nightly update:  Well she didn't eat her breakfast, so I locked her in the office with Mini Dee and gave her another can of food, she ate a  2.75oz of Meow Mix and a 3oz of fancy feast.  However she still has the cow pie consistency poops so got some medications for that.  Earlier today my husband recorded her meowing and walking around my chair in circles continuously.  It sounds like a pain cry or a confused cry to me, wondering if she might be getting senile?  She has eaten a couple of Lean Treats (dog treats she goes nuts for) and some more Friskies Natural Sensations.  Right now she is finishing off Mini Dee's dry food (just 1/8 of a cup), so I'm thinking she is feeling a little better.  My vet at work said the next step would be xrays and maybe an ultrasound with the specialist.....not sure we can afford the specialist at the moment as we are still playing catch up from when I didn't have a good job.  So right now she is on; Chloramphenicol, Tramadol, Cyproheptadine, Buprenex and now Metronidazole.  Poor kitty is on more medications than me :-)   On a positive not she was sitting on the back of my hubby's chair purring on her own accord tonight so that's a good sign.
