Since gas prices are so high I was thinking about getting a locking gas cap. Does anyone her ehave one? Did you buy it because of the price of gas is so high and you don't want people stealing it from you?
I bought one last September after prices skyrocketed. It cost me $15, but I figured it is worth it. About a month after installing it, I found that it had been tampered with, but no one was able to break though it, so I was very glad that I'd gotten it! Over the last 6 months or so we have seen an increase in siphoning crimes.Originally Posted by Phenomsmom

You don't syphon it out with your mouth anymoreOriginally Posted by lunasmom
My gas cap has to be unlocked from inside the car as well, so I'm not too worried at the moment.
Besides, if someone is THAT desparate to syphin gasoline, I guess I should let them have. Gasoline leaves a disgusting taste in your mouth, even after you spit it out.
I looked into getting a locking cap for my Harley Sportster as well, but the cost was too ridiculous - I figured if I lose 3 gallons, I lose 3 gallons - better than losing 15 from my truck all at once!Originally Posted by VampireCat
The cost of our petrol has rocketed lately. I have a locking cap on my car which is standard for the UK. Pete's car has an internal release.
My Harley is not a lockable cap, but we dont really worry about the petrol being knicked, the real problem would be if someone poured something in
Good point...Originally Posted by katl8e
A locking gas cap is no deterrent. My late husband owned an auto repair business back in '73. He made a LOT of money, replacing gas tanks, which had been punctured by gas thieves. Let them siphon your gas - its cheaper to replace a tank of gas, than the whole gas tank.
