Hi guys.
I have 4 months old kitten.
He's having diarrhea all the time.
I kept him on dry and wet food and his stool is same.
Very runny and cannot even see the shape of it.

The vet prescribed some antibiotic but that didn't help
I wonder if he's allergic to chicken?
I don't want to change too much of his food since he's very young.
but is it possible that he's just born with chicken allergy?
I thought food allergy is more of something that they develope
as they get older.

need some advice!!
thanks

Get him on some probiotics. Kittens have very sensitive digestive systems and easily get diarrhea. I'd recommend using Nexabiotics. I use it daily for all my cats and I used it when my cats were kittens. Just open the capsule and mix the proper amount into their wet food. It contains s boulardii, which helps firm up stool. The dosage info is here listed on this site. and here's the link for the product

how much do you feed this probiotic for your kittens?
since this is a human probiotic I assume it wouldn't give cat's dosage on the bottle?

No, don't use the Human dosing instructions. The second link missmimz posted has the suggested dosage for cats for the Nexabiotic probiotic.  It's on page 8:

Adult cat daily use for "maintenance": 1/2 capsule twice a day.

Adult cat therapeutic use: full capsule twice a day.

Kittens daily use for "maintenance" 1/4 capsule twice a day.

Kittens therapeutic use: 1/2 capsule twice a day.

You may want to discuss probiotics with your vet but don't expect much help from the vet as many aren't familiar with giving probiotics to cats other than FortiFora.

Another probiotic similar to FortiFlora that some vets use is Advita. http://www.thecatsite.com/t/300328/anyone-use-advita-versus-fortiflora

Correction: the dosing information is in the first link, not the second (Amazon) link

I will order this probiotic.
in the mean time i'm trying him on dry food only to see if it's the wet food that's causing the diarrhea.
he's having about 3 poops a day. and the funny thing is he has one good, perfect poop one time and dirrhea one time.
so I don't think it's the food allergy or specific protein source.

Possible that he's eathing too much but I kind of make sure not to give him too much. and also
he's growing kitten. so it kind of bothers me that I cannot give him as much as he wants. :(

Dry food is not going to solve this issue. What food are you feeding right now? It may not be a protein allergy, it's more likely an allergy to something IN the food you're feeding. You really need to feed some very simple foods with limited ingredients. Kibble is loaded with so many different ingredients it's going to make things worse. Wet food doesn't cause diarrhea, it's something IN the food. I'd suggest you give him something like poached chicken breast or even meat baby food without garlic or onions for a few days to try and get his system to recover. I don't know where you're located but if you can try and get some slippery elm bark. It's a powder you mix into a syrup and it will sooth their tummy and help with the diarrhea.

The probiotic which Artie's specialist prescribed is Proviable. It is less expensive on Chewy. It was explained to me that Forti Flora contains Animal digest. That can be anything. My guy is allergic to chicken, so I am giving him the Proviable. Works great.

Good luck

Sorry for the delay in my reply.

The Proviable comes in a capsule. I pull apart the capsule, and add it to my guy's food. It is really tasteless.

It has to be given with food. Either mix it in, or give the entire capsule whole, immediately before feeding or immediately after...

I do not know if you have access to Chewy.com or Amazon, but Chewy is about 20 dollars less for twice the amount that I would get at the Vet's...

Forte-Flora seems to be the first probiotic many Vets suggest. It was the internal medicine Vet who prescribed Proviable. You do not need a prescription for it.

sending you well wishes.. hope this helps...

((hugs))

Did the vet do a fecal test? He could have worms or a parasitic infection called Coccidia. Either of these could cause diarrhea and are common in young kittens.

Thank you very much for all the replies.

we did the stool check as well. everything is normal.

we're bring him to vet in 2 weeks to get rabies.
I will ask again but i think it wouldn't help too much since they suggested Fortifora last time and it's not working at all.

weired thing is his stool get worse when he gets dry food.
so we are tyung natural balance duck and pea in wet food starting tonight and waiting for probiotic.

I feel bad for my poor kitty :(

poor little guy... it could very well be an allergy to whatever is in the dry food; some kind of additive to it..

I know the food is pricey, but I am feeding Artie, Natures Variety.. it is a good food line without the junky additives. They also have a limited ingredient line.. Right now he is on a novel protein diet, Rabbit from the Pride line of NV...

Also, coccidia is very hard to diagnose.. so just ask the Vets about it...

Hey guys.
so we finally received Proviable paste+capsule set.
he had 1ml paste + one capsule.
couple hours later his stool was perfect!
his stool got a lot better since I post last time because I cut off the dry food for him.
but it always leaves runny end part. but with Proviable i didnt have to wipe off his bum :)
thanks for recommendation !
Chewy. com doesnt ship to Canada so I bought from Amazon.
but it seems like this is prescribed product. why is it availble in amazon?
I mean is it safe to trust and buy this from Amazon?

Glad to hear the Proviable is helping!!  That is great news!

In the States, Provable is not a prescribed drug. You can buy if off of Amazon or Chewy. Yes, it is safe to buy from Amazon... actually, I think Chewy is a off-shoot of Amazon....
