I am so sorry, but you have him safe. So long as he is still eating, and still taking his med in whipped cream, despite how it hurts you, he is safe, and I pray that with time, he will realize he can/should still trust you.
I hope the loss of trust is temporary, too. At least now you can monitor the eye better than when he is under "his" house, and he is not in danger of another fight with the big tomcat. Poor Cleo. Prayers that he will feel better and remember your years of warm meals.Originally Posted by hissy
Well he is home but letting either one of us near him. He sees us and turns and runs. The trust has been shattered, and I can only hope that it is temporary. I took my binoculars this morning and while he was at the feeder I looked at his eye and from what I could see it looks okay, not weepy or swollen or rolled back. I will just keep working with him slowly to be able to get closer, but this breaks my heart that he no longer trusts us.

I totally trust your insight in this matter, Hissy. You are there with Cleo, and know his situation best. You can look at him, and know better what he can tolerate. I'm sorry he is not able to accept your care. Bless you for listening to Cleo with your heart even if it goes against what your mind says to do.Originally Posted by hissy
I admit defeat.I have managed to sever the trust built over eleven years with Cleo. After his traumatic vet visit, his confinement for nine days to which he never stopped letting me know vocally how unhappy he was, and even after his drugging of Kitty Prozac didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t work. He has let me know that under no circumstances will he allow me near him again.
I am so sad, he is a noble animal and he and I used to have a system where I would walk up to him and go “Cleo fall over..†He would then drop to his belly and roll over for a good scratch and rub before going off on his way.
I just tried that outside with him, and he looked at me as if “Who are you kidding?†Hissed and ran off. I told his retreating back that he wins, I will stop trying to heal him, I will not bring him inside or back to the vet, and if this means he dies quicker than I am ready to accept, I will still respect his wishes to remain free.
His eye looks better, not great but better. I do not agree with the path he has chosen, but other than really manhandle him to get MY way there is little I can do, except accept that he truly is a free spirit and that is how he wants to exit this world-

It is wonderful news!!Originally Posted by yayi
Mary Anne, ever think you never lost Cleo's trust? He was injured, in pain and probably scared. I think we will never truly understand how other species think or how they feel about people especially when it comes to survival.
Anyway, this is good news!
