I have just one thing to say:

People who have and/or want to get pedigreed cats is never a home for a shelter cat (for those particular ones) anyway.

If you're seeking a pedigree cat, it just means that you're seeking a particular type of cat. 99% of the time you wont find the particular type in a shelter or on the roads. Therefore, you were never a home for a shelter cat! This does not of course, preclude the fact that you already have one or more strays in your home anyway!

So don't feel guilty about getting a pedigree cat, you were never a home for a non pedigree.

I ignored her post.
I was not going to look for a spyhnx in the pound anyway.
It is rare to have one there.

Just out of curiousity I did a search on Petfinder - currently 4 Sphynx are needing homes - one in Utah, one in Arizona and two in California. All are purebred hairless Sphynx.

Its rare to find them in a shelter but apparently these 4 had horrible owners if they are sitting in there. I'm not sure if there is a sphynx rescue group (probably is) but they should be made aware of these 4 cats and get them out of the shelters.

I know the Ocicats do have several people that look for the real Oci's in shelters and try to get them out and rehome them.

I myself have a Heinz 57, my wonderful Tuxedo boy, and a purebred Siamese girl. I love all cats--it matters not whether they are purebred or not. I worked in adoptions (human children, not kittens!) for 5 years, and you wouldn't believe how many negative comments other people would make to our adoptive parents about their decision to adopt! The world would be a lot happier place if all of us were more "live-and-let-live"!

I think your Sphynx is just beautiful--she certainly seems like a precious little kitty girl! Enjoy her, and pay no attention to others.

I know you have several cats so anything I could add I'm sure you've thought of. But, I usually try to feed newcomers at the same time as when we eat so that they aren't so determined to eat off my plate. It has worked on all my cats and they just need time to learn the ropes of manners LOL.

What I don't understand is why are they asking 550.00 for the one in Utah. I understand this is a purebred but if it's in a shelter I would think they would be more concerned with finding these poor cats a loving forever home.

I am very confused about the last 2 sphynx on there.
I wrote taht lady and she wrote me back a few weeks ago.
I was thinking of fostering them.
On there it says Glendale which is So Cal.
The lady wanted someone to foster them in the San Francisco Bay Area or someone within 100 miles from
there.
I wrote a few people in this group asking if they want to foster them but no one replied.

Here is what I wrote on Nove 28th.
On Fri, November 28, 2008 4:55 pm, Jacky Chapman wrote:

This is her reply on Dec 1
Hi Jacky,

Thanks! That would be great. These girls are going to need the extra
care that Sphynx require. Our group pays all pre-approved vet expenses
and has a great track record for getting cats placed in wonderful homes.
We do not force our fosters to look for homes for the cats, we do all of
that legwork. We want our fosters to be able to concentrate on taking
care of the kitties.

Thanks again,

I have never irresponsibly allowed a pet to breed. I have never put an animal in a shelter or turned one out onto the streets or been responsible for the production of unwanted animals. It is not my fault if other people do not care for their pets as responsibly as I do. It is not my fault if other people irresponsibly allow their pets to produce unwanted offspring. It is not my responsibility to sort out the mess that other people make. I do donate to shelters and animal charities, but the world the way it is - that is NOT of my making and I have not 'contributed' unwanted pets to the population, and I will not be made to feel guilty for making my own choice when it comes to what pets I want.
All I can say to that is

So thank you.

Of my 3 cats, 2 of them were brought into this world as part of a breed specific breeding programme by someone who showed their cats to make sure they fit the specified look for the breed, their parents' backgrounds were researched thoroughly to make sure there was no sign of genetic problems including heart disease which is common in cats, they were tested for FIV and FeLV before they were mated, and they had known good temperaments.

As kittens, my cats were fed the best quality diet, they were weaned, socialised, health-checked (including heart monitoring just in case), and vaccinated before coming home with me. In the US, you can add spay/neuter to that list of things that are done before rehoming although we don't spay/neuter that young in the UK just yet. And they were loved and cherished for every moment of their existence, from before they were even conceived. If I have any problems, I can contact their breeder and expect full support and an advice service, throughout the whole of their lifetime.

Isn't that how ALL kittens should come into the world? It's not the good breeders at fault, or the people who opt for purebred kittens - it's the people who don't spay and neuter their pets that are responsible for the shelter population.
