I scoop 1-2 times a day, depending on frequency and potency of gifts - and complete detox never goes over a fortnight.

I have to admit -- I'm pretty bad about this too. I probably get to it once every 1-2 months.Originally Posted by emb_78

How can a cat go in a box that isn't scooped at least once a day?I would think that it would be gross and smelly.
Thanks for verifying this in my head, Hissy! I was thinking the same thing, but my expertise is much more limited than yours! I do know, however, that Sophie would be one mad little critter if that litter box wasn't scrubbed out at least once a week. She can't wait to jump in it as soon as I'm done and dirty it all up again!Originally Posted by hissy
If I didn't scrub out my litter pans twice a week, I would have an epidemic of ticked off kittens and cats that would be baptizing every corner of my house.
It is important to maintain strict standards when it comes to your litter pans, because A) They are made of plastic. (B) Plastic harbors bacteria when damaged and C) Cat's scratch up the plastic and that's where the bacteria lurks. Just dumping new litter on top of old- even if well-scooped, will send a sensory message to your cat to avoid that spot because it smells bad.
Cats are very fastidious creatures, and they are scent-driven. There is no way that not changing your litter for months at a time is acceptable or healthy for your cats.
