I don't free feed either, even when mine were kittens they had meal times.

Abby only eats dry food, and she is a "nibbler" and only eats about 10 pieces of food at a time, so I free feed her.

Chynna likes wet food and before her dental surgery I fed her twice a day with free dry the rest of the time. Since her dental I've been pushing wet food on her so she gets about 5 servings per day because she doesn't eat full servings at one time.

They each eat 1/4 cup in the morning of dry food and then 3oz of wet food at night. Chloe is younger and still growing so I sometimes give her a little bit more dry food at night.

Cats only need 20-30 calories per lb. per day.

Vomiting is usually because the cat is eating too fast. Try putting golf balls in the dish so the cat has to work around them and will eat slower.

If you have a kitten, it's best to leave dry out all the time and then feed as much wet as they will eat each day.

This is a bit off as many cats under 10lbs eat 500 cal a day and are UNDER wt yet have normal blood work

I feed each cat a 1/2 cup of raw twice a day. In between they get grain free snacks. Sometimes I will give them a can of Tiki cat tuna for a treat. My pregnant cat eats about 3 cups of raw food a day.
