She is grooming her belly now and licking her genitals. I don't want to put her off but she seems to want me here, purring whenever I stroke her.

I've turned the light off and have a night light on. Plus I have my phone which has a torch if nec. Should I leave it like this?

I'm going to stay because I just feel she wants me to. If she moves into the nest to be Alone that's fine but right now she seems to wait me close by.

If she is in stage one labor, it can go on for quite a few hours. The dim lights sound very calming. She is having contractions. You'll know when she moves into stage two because you will see her pushing.

Also she keeps licking my hand. I didn't think cats do that

She's making good progress!

I think licking your hand is very sweet :).

I have a 7-month-old kitten who licks my hands.

@sarthur2 should I check. It's breathing. Placenta out too. Do I leave kitten there or move to kitten box

Wait it out,  Moving the kittens to the box while mom is still in labor may upset her.  Just relax and be available if mom needs help.

So far so good!

You can warm up the kitten bed with a heating pad set on low under the blankets, or a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel, and have it ready. If you move the kitten, mom may move too, so best to wait. If it takes awhile between kittens, this one can nurse during the break.

How's mama kitty doing?

Also, always check. Give mom a chance to bite open the sac and clean the kitten, but if she doesn't, do it yourself. Don't wait too long.

She may eat the placentas, or not. If she doesn't just discard them.

Make sure she has water to drink nearby.

Momma is doing great. She panicked at bit I think when kitten came out and was thrashing around. But then she got to work on cleaning etc. Very small kitten, I mean small even for newborn. Momma was resting but has started panting heavily agin now. How long before the next one? Is it normal to wait this long. First kitten at 1.15.

This is normal. Cats can give birth over several hours.

Has this kitten nursed yet?

Do you have a scale to weigh the babies?
