Ok so iv been feeding kittens every 3-4 hours and they all seem fine and happy. They still don't really like the syringe but once they taste the milk they drink away at a fair enough ease. Mama cat still hasn't return and we have left food put constantly and it has never been touched she hasn't ever left the house for longer than maybe 3 hours befor this she would allways be on the window or with the kittens my best bet would be poison I'd say ? But wouldn't she return and die at home if she ate poison or would she die instantly ? The vet rang back and asked was mama back and I told him iv been feeding them he told me to keep feeding them every 3 hours. So hopefully mama come back [emoji]128532[/emoji]
Either something's happened to mom or she's gone courting. It's best you plan on raising them as you are doing. Can you get a scale to weigh them so we can tell you the appropriate amounts to feed? Also, are they going pee and poop? Are you stimulating/cleaning them? They are lucky they had mom as long as they did!
Yes I'll weigh them all next feeding time as soom as im home...she never left the garden even when she was pregnant so I'm thinking she got injured becouse she was a great mom.
Keep putting food out for her. She may show up yet. Cats can return 3 days, or a week later. Time will tell. I'll look for the weights on here later - and pictures! [emoji]128522[/emoji]
Ok so just finished another feed and there well used to it now and they are so good and just do it without hassle I got all there weights black=352 grams
Ginger 1= 279 grams (runt)
Ginger 2= 358 grams
Multi girl= 328 grams
Big multi colour= 366
Multi tom = 329
I'd love to know the correct amount to give each in ml for each.
They all seem very happy and are getting super attached to me.
Still no sign of mammy
Oh and how long until they are urinating on there own.
Thanks [emoji]9786[/emoji]
Wow! They are all between 10 and almost 13 ounces each at almost 3 weeks! That is fantastic! The goal is for kittens to weigh about 16 ounces - which is a pound - at 4 weeks, and to gain a pound a month each month thereafter for the first 6 months.
They should begin peeing and pooping on their own between 3-4 weeks. Continue stimulating them in the meantime. If they are not pooping, add a drop or two of olive or veggie oil to the KMR formula to soften things up. You'll begin to see more independence in this department around age 4 weeks.
The rule of thumb is 8 mL's of formula for each ounce of weight. So if a kitten weighs 10 ounces, it needs 80 mL's of formula every 24-hour period. If you feed every 4 hours, that means six feedings of 13-14 mL's at a time. You can round up. If a kitten is still hungry, feed more. More is always better. They should show a daily weight gain of 6-10 grams, so begin weighing at the same time each day so you'll know. It won't be long before you can leave kitten chow down 24/7 and they will be interested, along with wet food mixed into a mush with KMR for them to lap up about 6 times a day. I'd say try it when they are 4 weeks old, at which point you can introduce the litter box (kitten-sized with non-clumping litter).
If you need me to figure exact amounts for each kitten, let me know. I'm happy to do it for you. Otherwise, keep notes, and the amount increases as they grow.
You are doing a great job! Thank you, and sorry about their mom. [emoji]128522[/emoji]
Depending on the kitten formula you are giving...KMR powder after you mix it, 1 ml of KMR per 0.26 grams of kitten weight in 24 hours. So an 80 gram kitten would get about 20 mls per day. So if you fed 10 times in 24 hours it would be about 2 mls each feeding. Your kittens are much older than an 80 gram, premature, newborn. They should be able to go for longer periods, I would guess at least 3 to 4 fours hours between feedings, maybe even longer. Kitten #1 at 279 grams, 279 x 0.26 = about 72 mls in 24 hours. So if you split that into 6 feedings in 24 hours, 12 mls per feeding. That is with KMR powder that you have already mixed with water. Some kittens will eat more than that, but you wouldn't want them to eat a lot less than that. Weighing is important to do daily just to ensure they are gaining. At 4 weeks you should be able to start weaning to a canned kitten food.
Since they are 3 weeks old, it should be any day now. Are you not sometimes finding pee or wet spots in their nest? You may have to continue helping them for another week or so.
Have you looked around your area for the mother? I had a stray years ago that gave birth in my garage, the mother ended up getting stuck in my neighbors garage for Two days. Luckily she was alright, and real happy to see her babies. You might want to try looking around the neighborhood for her or asking any neighbors if they've sited her. Record the kittens crying and play it, maybe she'll hear it. Post photos of the kitties as they grow,!! Good luck
Theres a picture of the kittens
They are all very full of energy now
Drinking loads of milk but not too much of course.
They are going on there own now but it seems that there doing there business all over each other. Should I give them a bath and how would I go about it e.g temp?
Still no sign of mam have asked all the neighbours there hasn't been single sigh of her or no body [emoji]128563[/emoji]
Make sure to wipe them Down if they are urinating on each other, you want to avoid urine scalding. I'd check to make sure the kittens aren't suckling on each other, this is especially dangerous for the males as it can destroy the urethra not to mention infection and swelling.they have specific kitten bathing wipes, I think Petco has a package for 4.99 , those worked great for my fosters. You could also get a stuffed animal and insert a clock that ticks rather loud(mimicking a heartbeat), it helps calm the kittens down and makes them feel more secure, it's supposed to be a surrogate momma. Good luck keep us posted
OK I wiped them down and there cleaner now but i went out today and mam is back [emoji]128518[/emoji][emoji]128518[/emoji][emoji]128518[/emoji] but she has a badly broken leg [emoji]128550[/emoji] badly like as if a dog grabbed hold of it or she got caught in wire maybe I don't no I'm bringing her to the vet now
