I've got a couple of ideas:
I think it might be someone closely associated with Gryfindor.
I think that it might be an adult since Cedric (a student) was killed in book 4. I don't think killing another student in book 5 would be a good idea. The Ministry of Magic might throw out Dumbledore or try to close the school, having 2 students get killed in back to back school years doesn't look good, and I just don't think that would work well in the story line.
If it is a student, which I really don't think it is, I get this feeling that it might be Neville. I love Neville's character and I really hope not.
For adults, I'm thinking Lupin, Hagrid, Sirius, or McGonagal
I've thought that it could be Snape. You hate him most of the time but then there are these glimmers where you see his goodness. At the end of Book 4 when Voldemort is going over the Deatheaters in the circle and says he will kill one who did not come. That's got to either be Snape or Karkaroff. But then I think, would I be that upset over Snape? Well, she might because she created him or we see him in a new light in book 5 that makes us really like him.
