Trust me, with the trouble my mom has been having the past few days (had a rather large polyp removed, almost had to have an emergency hysterectomy) its not worth it to neglect your, um, female health!Originally Posted by rosiemac

But do you know the sad thing is, one of my best friends just told me yesterday that she hasn't been for one for over 20 years!
I can't even talk any sense into her!
Every place I have ever been has nicely padded stirrup covers : ) Also there is usually something to read plastered on the ceiling LOL That always cracks me up. Usually men-bashing jokes heheOriginally Posted by lionessrampant
I have a female gyno...so this makes it a little more pleasant for me.
Now, if they could only do something about those cold metal stirrups...
I can empathize...I was in for a biopsy a couple weeks ago and my doc (a female) couldn't do it. She kept going on about how she was having trouble because I was so LONG and narrow. It was SO embarrassing.Originally Posted by PrissyKitty

Not in every state. Most male doctors insist upon a female attendant, to protect THEMSELVES from unfounded accusations. Until I left home, my mother was in the room. After that, there was always a nurse or medical assistant there.Originally Posted by PrissyKitty
It is AGAINST THE LAW for there not to be a female nurse present if your OB/GYN is not a female herself. Hopefully someone has pointed this out by now, sorry I didn't take time to read the whole thread...
I've always had my GP do it, but now that we're thinking about trying to get pregnant, last time I found an OB/GYN. She was really nice, and I like her a lot, but I'm laying there with my butt practically hanging off the edge and various, um, instruments being poked into me, and she asks me how I like living in Kansas City, when I moved here, how I met my husband ... Not an odd conversation in and of itself, but in context it was quite strange.Originally Posted by katspixiedust
My gyno is the same woman who delivered me! Even though it's a woman she still always has a nurse in the room. What I really don't like though, since she's the one who delivered me and she knows my whole family, is when she starts asking, "So, how are your parents? And your brother, is he doing well?" WHILE she's giving the exam!!!!!! AH!
WARNING: POSSIBLE TMI BELOW (Not really, though. This is good info to have.)Originally Posted by PrissyKitty
