You can buy poutine here too, but I've never had one as I'm not a fan of gravy. I eat my fries plain, sometimes salted or with seasoning salt. When I was younger and when I ate at McDonald's, I dipped them in strawberry or vanilla milkshakes.Originally Posted by Yosemite
In my teens it was the norm to order French Fries with gravy and then add ketchup. I still love french fries and gravy but it has to be good pan-dripping gravy, none of those canned or packaged gravy.
In Quebec fries are covered in gravy and cheese curds and called poutine. Some places in Ontario sell Poutine (not sure of the other Provinces).
The hot/cold combination it great! Everyone should try it,even if it sounds gross....it's sooo good!Originally Posted by SwampWitch
I like 'em with mayo... tasted it in Europe once and got hooked. Ice cream doesn't sound good to me, doesn't it make the french fries cold? How about garlic ice cream which people say is really good? Maybe with fries!
Well, hon, the next time you make a roast or fry burgers or steak (I don't use the BBQ for steaks and burgers because all those good, delicious gravy-making juices drip down onto the charcoal and burn away), you make extra and freeze it or at least get all those lovely juices out and freeze them for a quick gravy when you want it. Then when you make those lovely home-made fries (which we do pretty much every Friday), you have that lovely gravy to put on them.Originally Posted by menagerie mama

I would like to try them with gravy, but Yosimite, can you bring me some good gravy, cuz I never have fries with anything that I would make good gravy with!
Oh me, too, I love my fries hot. I like mine with salt and can eat them all day hot with salt. I also like vinegar, mayo and spicy mustard and ocassionally ketchup. IOriginally Posted by Rone
For me, the fries must be right off the grease. I can't tell you how many times I sent the fries back because they were luke warm (yuck). I eat fries with only salt & ketchup.

Yup, you do see poutine out here, but it doesn't appeal to me, because it's too much stuff on the fries. Nice fries really don't need anything other than a little salt and pepper, and maybe a little sprinkle of garlic. However, depending on mood and what else is on the plate, any of: gravy, mayo, tartar sauce, bbq sauce or ketchup. Can't quite get my head around ice cream, sorry.Originally Posted by Yosemite
I don't care for poutine so I hadn't checked around but have seen the "poutine" signs here and there. I would assume since there are French pockets in the west that poutine would also be popular there.
Ditto for me, except that even if they're bad I won't add the ketchup. French fries are one of my weaknesses. I used to LOVE Arbys home style fries - then they stopped having them! I figured my days of eating at Arby's were pretty much over, because I don't like spicy fries (like their curly fries). But the potato cakes aren't too bad.Originally Posted by zorana_dragonky
I like my french fries with salt. If the fries are not very good, I will eat them with Ketchup. Otherwise, I prefer a little salt and the taste of potatoes and grease.
Everywhere here sells poutine. I loooove poutine but I don't eat it often because its bad for you.Originally Posted by Yosemite
