Yesterday someone rang our doorbell. My SO and I do have occasional guests (as a matter of fact, a couple of people were here last week on Christmas Day), but we don't do a lot of entertaining at home. My point is that the cats know very well what the doorbell means, but we don't have a lot of strangers coming and going.
Anyway, when the bell rang, I happened to be standing next to the bed where one of my cats was lounging, and he growled! It really made me laugh. I have heard him do this before when we were playing with Da Bird (that toy is very, very popular in my household), and of course I've heard angry cats growling at each other. This is the first cat I've ever owned, though, to growl at a perceived threat from outside (my SO told me he growled once when a snow plow drove by our house, but I didn't believe him!). Do your cats ever do this?
(Just as an FYI: he is never actually aggressive to people. He is usually wary of, but curious about, strangers.)
