ok need advice smudge is having 3 big tightenings abit like her stomach squeezing , even her legs move , then it relaxs and then she has anova one i would say there between 3 to 5 mins apart i cant see anything and her fur near her vulva was abit wet , she is hiddeing between my two sofas but i can see her and reach her she dosnt want the nesting box and she keeps trying to get under my sofas and behind them but cant fit also when she has this pain she shuts her eyes close tight so must be hurting her so is this labour if so how long will it take and as anyone else had this experience i feel so sorry for her
Sounds like she is in labor. With my first foster, Norma, she didn't want to go in the nesting box either. I ended up putting towels all over the floor in "her" room and letting her have them there.
Here's a video of Norma when she was in labor. This was shortly before her first kitten was born...
she is in labour first kitten just arrived 4 mins ago she did really well seems to be alive and moving towards mother i dont want to touch it because i know she aint finished let u know when more come
she keeps constantly licking the kitten and crying should i stroke her or touch her the baby hasnt gone near her nipple she just keeps licking it but its alive an moving
Let her be. If she leaves a kitten where it could get cold, pick it up, dry it as best you can on a clean old towel or similar and put it with the other kittens. Newborns get cold very easily, and it's very bad for them.
A friend had a cat who would leaves kittens all round her living room until she had finished delivering, then she was a model mum. My friend had a heat pad, we put each kitten there as it was born.
Watch for the placentas - one per kitten. If she is paying attention to her vulva and making a slurping sound she is probably eating a placenta.
Mama probably needs a little reassurance. Tell her she's doing a good job and definitely pet her if she wants you to. The mama will lick the kitten a lot to get it dry. The kitten will eventually find the nipple, they don't usually latch on immediately. You can touch the kitten to move it nearer to mama.
she has eaten the placenta for this kitten all ready it is snuggled up with her so that a good sound just waiting for the rest now , she was huge and i think she got at least anova 3 maybe 4 , how long between each kitten should it take and also when can i touch them to put her and babies in the box as she has had them in my front room and the kids will be up in the morning and she might get scared as there still young
How long between each kitten varies. They can come really close, but occasionally up to 12 hours can happen and so long as mum seems well and content it's not a problem.
I would leave her where she is until she seems to have finished, then pop them in a nice clean box. If you can keep your child quiet I'm sure they would love to see her with the new kittens.
ok she shud ov finished by now the last one was at 12 and no more have come since she was really tired so heres what she had
1) tortie just like her
2) blonde one
3) grey/ blue one
