Historian that was beautifully said thank you so much and I of course feel the exact same way my child's life is in the Vets hands tomorrow morning. Our hearts and faith also are in his hands. I will die a thousand deaths if this surgery does not work I don't know how it cant but time will tell I cant handle anymore heart ache I am a wreck for weeks after her decline in health. Better quality of life and longevity is exactly what we need. Thank you for reaching out to me....I will give you an update when I get the phone call from the vet after surgery...My home is so lonely and empty without her right now I cant imagine how it will feel when I go to bed alone later:(

Katruble...Thank you for thinking of us and keeping us in your prayers It means a lot. So many on this site have been wanting updates on Nala so I do it in one big post and attach every ones name so I don't have to write each individual person. I just wrote a post update after spending an hour with Nala today so you will see it when you can if you care to read it:)

I hate to sound like a true dummy but how do I find the group post that you did? I'm rather new to this forum and not sure where to read it. I would love to read about Nala's results & progress.

I know, I still make mistakes posting here. Maybe if I went back and read all the rules and regulations and instructions I would quit screwing up ;-)

Raintyger...Its been a while my friend I hope all is well with you. I need the name or send me the link for the probiotic supplement for cats please:) Preferably in a pill since she is horrible with liquid..Its been a rollercoaster with Nala for a month in and out of vet hospital with vomiting. The back end gets fixed now front end is bad...They stopped steroids and is now on Cerenia for vomiting and its working she may vomit once a week hoping it stops eventually. He took her off of dry onto wet food and its been a nightmare she hates every flavor and brand. The amount of money I spent on canned food is crazy.. So Science diet makes a senior food for easy digestion and small kibble pieces easy to chew so she is on that. This cat has me one foot in the ground....

Hi siameselove03,

I wondered how it was going with you and Nala. So sorry it has been so rough. I am sure Nala appreciates it, though, and you are accumulating lots of Kitty Karma.

The probiotic I used was this:

It's a powder, so you just mix it in with the food. Most probiotics are that way. If you really want a pill I've heard of getting empty gelatin pill shells and filling them.

Another probiotic which is popular on this site is Natural Factors:

It is a human probiotic which can likely be found in your local health food store. You open the capsule and sprinkle an approximate dosage on the food. Giving human probiotics has its pros and cons. Gut bacteria is fairly species specific, so some argue that giving a cat a human probiotic may not help that much. On the other hand, human probiotics are available with greater variety and in higher potency.

There's no indication of what's causing the vomiting? If the vet doesn't know by now, maybe you should ask a specialist.

Well Well Well its a bird its a plane its Raintyger buddy please pal hello:) Yes its been a journey to say the least and she has been in and out of vet hospital since we last spoke and she is home about 2 weeks now with no return. As far as prognostics since its all powder and no pill ill stick with the vet prescribed to me for cats forgot the name by Purina great reviews but to hell if I can get her to eat it I wasted the 1st packet today ill try tomorrow I can only mix in wet and she likes no wet food back on dry liable for seniors small pieces easy to chew and digest. She must eat so vet gave in to dry. I have one wet she must be in mood for so I try it daily if she don't eat it I throw it out...Vet wanted her on wet no dry but after over 10 brands and flavors of buying returning and throwing away I bought dry still trying to introduce wet...colon wise pretty good maybe a tiny log mostly every day but sometimes every other so I'm happy. Remember she has vomited on and off for years..She is on Cerenia and it helps alot he will try to take her off later see how she does if not she will stay on it. Got her off steroids onto this non steroids. A specialist is going to cost she's been thru so much at almost 12 and almost 3000 later. Ill try to hang in see how she does I guess one vomit a week ill take I guess preferred none at all...Its been a rough 2 months feel so bad for her she is starting to put a lil weight back on...Long road

The Purina probiotic is most likely FortiFlora. Although it does work, it is not the best probiotic on the market. Most members here use it as a flavor enhancer for when they are trying to convert kitties from dry to wet food. It contains animal digest in it, which is what they spray on kibble so that cats will eat it.

You've had a tough couple of months. If you're at a stable place with Nala, give it a rest and then continue with the wet/dry food and vomiting issues later. If you need different types of canned food, try some of the links in my signature. They sell single cans of food, so you pick and choose without having to order entire cases.

Well she don't seem to give a crap about flavor its not helping at all Lol...Yes we both have been through hell and back repeatedly its been ongoing since constipation started before surgery till now non stop so Yes I'm tired of racking my brain if a probiotic isn't Really going to help her gut why did I bother? I'm wore out on can food hunts and disappointments. I will check out links but def taking a break from it all. This is the most stable Nala has Been in a few months....

Thank you to Everyone for all your advice.....

I wrote down All the brands everyone suggested that I try and I will buy one of each if I can find them and try them. As much as she likes tuna according to the vet, chronic vomiting cats or ones with stomach issues are to stay away from seafood, beef and lamb period. So I will be on the wet food hunt once again. I know this will come as NO surprise to anyone at this point but Nyla did not like the probiotic in her food so at about 3am she was hungry so I mixed it in water and filled 2 syringes with it and gave it to her and almost 3 hours later she vomited it up brown clear liquid on the kitchen floor a puddle. The probiotic is brown so that had to be what she brought up so there you go no kind of luck with this cat what so ever... Karin

This info is wonderful. My baby has lost so much weight. What is a good proper dose of Miralax? Per lb? I'm using Frisco es wet but am going to go get some Innova or blue buffalo wild...the California stuff isn't available here. Closest store over an hr away..gotta try everything possible. He's eating...hes just so boney and runny stool around large balls. Got to get him healthy

You should take him to the vet before giving Miralax. The runny stool is a sign of severe constipation because the only stool that can make it out of the body is watery in consistency. If you do not get him unclogged first, it is sort of like putting more water behind a dam. Eventually there will be too much stress on his colon.

I would ask the vet about giving him digestive enzymes. That way more of the food will be digested and put to use. Not only will that help in terms of weight gain, but if there is less waste then there will be less to buildup in the colon.

I too have a Magacolon Kitty. I have been using Royal Canin GI Fiber Response. Works great. Only thing I have found that works for my kitty. We call him Plug!

What dose of Miralax do you use and how long does it take before they can go again?
