Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
But quite a few people share their videos via YouTube. I think they mean being able to share their videos without a new window being opened would be nice.

Why? What's wrong with opening a new window?

Because sometimes the more windows you have open the slower your browser can go slow, so personally I would love to have the videos play on this page loading time would reduce to

As for the cooking threads, well, I agree about having a separate place for recipes because those are things we don't want to lose....recipes are important and it would be great to be able to find a certain recipe without a lot of hassle.

But as for regular cooking threads such as those that I post from time to time (the home made vanilla thread, the Forward spice thread, for example), no need to have those separately; they're fine in the Lounge. For those who don't like them, don't read them....it's a simple as that. What's next? A separate tv section so that people who don't watch tv don't have to deal with posts? A separate sports section for people who don't like sports? A separate section for games? It can go on and on.

Let's just move and get all the bugs worked out! It's exciting! (and kinda scary, too)
That is a good point. However, I wish there was some way to archive the past recipes that have been posted so I can find them!
I'm terrible about remembering to subscribe to threads and there have been times when I thought "oh, so and so posted a great recipe for this" and have NO idea where to start looking. Or, maybe a forum section just where people can share recipes?

Youtube video embedding will be available on the new platform, as well as auto-resizing of images. No more tutorials about image resizing before posting

For one, because you have no control of what's going to show up related to your video when you open that window - on youtube, for example.
Once there was porn on the youtube page when I opened my cat video... once you are on youtube, it's everyone's game.

If you embed the video here, the person clicks in the video, right on the post, avoiding this situation. If it is the case of educating a member about an emergency situation, like force-feeding, etc (I have a number of videos like that, and so have quite a few other members too), some members are afraid of clicking on links due to viruses and spyware - having the video on the post instead of the link is much more inviting.... and much less threatening.
The person can then watch the video, and go on to respond to the thread - much quicker, easier, and safer. It is not youtube stuff that's going to be here - It is the member's video. You just upload it to youtube much the same way you uploaded pictures to photobucket - for file size, video extension format, and hosting.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
What about a sticky where if you have a recipe it can be posted in there. Something where the average user could add to it and if you have a question regarding a specific recipe you can PM the user who posted the recipe. As for the regular old questions regarding cooking or whatnot they can be regular threads.

I do agree that the Lounge is for everything non cat related. Theres tons of stuff posted that dont interest alot of people but theres not need to make a snit about it when it really is just as easy to not go into the thread. I actually in fact avoid entire sections because I know for myself theres stuff that doesnt interest me or isnt anything I can contribute to.

You could do an advanced search for all posts by a person containing a certain word, so that would help for those situations.
I just checked and the new platform also has this capability. The new platform does have a lot of different features. Once we make the move and the bugs are ironed out and Anne enables these features, we may find out one is perfect for recipes.

Oh, I hope so! I hate to lose good recipes!

I've started to copy and paste them as they're posted here and then keeping them in a Word document because I just hate the thought of losing them. And I'm terrible with search features, too.

I know.....
..... me too. But there are some pretty cool
new features that this site does not offer, I was pleasantly surprised. And there is still hope for siggy's down the road. With technology, things are always changing and we are forced just to go along for the ride. I am sure the ride will be a good one
. Something fun to learn and see if our brains are still functioning at full capacity

Just a proposal regarding recipes: Start a thread asking for suggestions of a word that could be used to preface the titles of all threads that contain recipes or discuss food preparation. "Food" wouldn't be good, because newbies might be tempted to post about cat food, but you could come up with things like "cuisine", "amateur chef", or whatever, then have a poll to decide on the best term. Then any thread on the subject would start with that word, e.g., "Cuisine: Making chutney", so it would be easy for people to search for such threads.

Mods can alter thread titles, so old threads could gradually be added to the "collection" as people post links to them in one thread.

The type of sticky some people have in mind won't be possible on the new platform, and Karen has already stated why a new (sub)form isn't advisable.
