! I especially asked about Siamese because both our cats have some oddities with their stomachs, as it sounds like yours might. One cat barfs if she eats foods with potato (not a common thing but there you go) and the other seems to sometimes have minor nausea. When we adopted them, the vet told us that Siamese and mixes tend to have digestive problems... and they quickly proved her right! That's all the more reason we feed them high-protein, grain-free foods without the carby stuff: that's our vet's general recommendation for all cats but especially for certain types of cats. Like Siamese.

When I first got Inari, she hard a bad case of diarrhea. She went like that for some months. From July to the middle of October. The vet just couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. So finally, my mom and I took it into our own hands and gave her Fromm. It worked magic. It like, hit a reset button on her system. Now she can eat things like Temptations treats and now can tolerate wet food that she couldn't eat. So, she did have an issue in the beginning.

Some thoughts on a constantly hungry kitten.

I was reading through all the comments and noticed that feeding free choice was not usually considered for this kitten. Kittens need lots of calories for growth and to support their high activity level. In my experience feeding free choice is almost never a problem, as long as protein and fat are fed at high levels and in balance. Balance in a wet food would be 12% protein and 6% fat. This canned food would have very little starch in it so you could feed a kitten a canned food with less protein and fat since most kittens do well with about 10% starch in their diet. I have found that about 2 parts protein to 1 part fat is a good rule of thumb.

I just wanted to include some of my thoughts on free feeding of all cats. It is not natural for cats to overeat in the wild. If they did so in the wild, they would collapse their food chain and eventually starve or have to move to a new territory. New territories already contain predators so they would have to fight each other to stay there; winner take all. They would also become obese and become less successful at hunting and avoiding predators. So to my mind I think it unlikely that they would be programed to overeat. I would also like to mention that cats in the wild consume the same level of protein and fat their whole lives. Kittens and adults thrive on the same diet in the wild and I believe they will only eat to meet their energy demands when fed that way in our homes.

It is my personal belief through observation and experience that overeating and the resulting weight gain usually only occurs with the feeding of a substandard diet. Keep in mind that a diet that may work for one cat, may not work for another. All cats are carnivores and are meant to thrive on diets consisting primarily of protein and fat. I believe that starch is the reason our cats deviate from their natural instincts. I have found that once you remove excess starch from their diet, they return to a normal eating pattern and do not overeat or become overweight.

My recommendation for this cat would be to feed wet food of high protein and fat as mentioned above, 3 times a day. First thing in the morning, again at 4:00 – 5:00pm and the third time just before bed. I would also recommend that you procure the highest protein and fat kibble you can find and have a dish available at all times. As long as the kibble has roughly 2 parts protein to 1 part fat and the carbs are less than 10% you should have great results and a very satisfied kitty.

When I first got Inari, she hard a bad case of diarrhea. She went like that for some months. From July to the middle of October. The vet just couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. So finally, my mom and I took it into our own hands and gave her Fromm. It worked magic. It like, hit a reset button on her system. Now she can eat things like Temptations treats and now can tolerate wet food that she couldn't eat. So, she did have an issue in the beginning.

And there's the thing about cats and their stomachs: that Fromm food, which has potato, would have made our cat barf but--for whatever reason--something about it helped your cat normalize. It's always so hard to know what will work for them! I'd just watch her carefully when decreasing the dry food and increasing the wet food, just in case, though I guess you do already know Wild Calling works for her. I always introduce new foods in very small amounts, though it seems that our cats do okay with quick changes now that they're off anything with starchy ingredients.

UPDATE!!!

I bought Inari Wild Calling and she gets very full with that food. I gave it to her three times a day one day, she ate about half of her dinner. I gave her about...1/3 and mixed it will her dry food for lunch that day. She had that, but ate half of her dinner. The next morning, she was still full from the night before and ate less than half of her breakfast. She nibbled on it and then came back.

My mom and I believe, Wild Calling is very filling for her. So, she is still eating twice a day. My Inari is still full from dinner the next morning, even eating twice a day. Last night, she ate a little over half her dinner and this morning, as I type this, she left some dry food behind so she can go back and eat it.

I know many of your suggested free feeding and/or feed her three times a day. She just gets so full with three times a day, she doesn't eat all her dinner and not all her breakfast the next morning.

I'm glad the Wild Calling works for Inari! I'm sure you'll figure out whether or not to feed her two or three times a day... it sounds like either could work, it just may take a bit of trial and error to figure out times and amounts. (And if she's like our cats, that can change!)

My picky cat does like the Wild Calling.  Single source proteins and novel proteins, if you have a cat with allergies.

She likes the Chicken, Rabbit and Buffalo (but normally does not like beef).
