8 weeks ago I had to put my beloved 10 year old kitty Cali to sleep due to an unknown but aggressive form of cancer. Making the decision to end her suffering was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do and I've been quite sad about her loss the past couple of months. I had no immediate intention of adopting a new cat as I had my hands full with my 4 remaining cats but it appears Fate had other plans. Wednesday February 27th we received Cali's final necropsy results and officially learned that she had suffered from sarcoma of the stomach lining. The report gave us a bit of closure and answered some of our unresolved questions. It felt like the end of that horrible chapter of our lives.
A few hours later, while driving home from the grocery store, our headlights danced across some tiny, shining little eyes in the road. My husband obviously knows I'm a bit of a crazy cat lady, so he stopped the car so I could check things out. It was really dark but I could see a small shape wandering around and it started meowing at me. It would come close, but not close enough, so I waved my husband away in case the idling car was the issue. Once he was gone, I was able to lure the meowing little fluffball over to me, and I promptly snatched it into my arms and walked home.
I didn't get my first glimpse of the kitten until I stepped into our front entry way and my heart melted when I saw her adorable little face. Long story short, my husband said I couldn't keep the kitten but I could tell he was immediately smitten as well. It felt like Kismet or Serendipity that she had found us (both names I have considered but the husband has rejected). He agreed that I could take her to the vet and make sure she was healthy before finding a new home for her (I knew the longer she stayed with us the more likely it would become permanent, but I didn't tell him that hehe). The vet determined she was a 2.45 lb 9-10 week old Calico kitten in perfect health (minus the fleas and worms!). She is very sure of herself, thinks all the big cats should want to be friends with her, purrs and plays nonstop, hisses at the dogs to make sure they know she is the boss, and she suckles on my hair when she's hungry or after she has just eaten.
For a tiny little thing, she has a whole lot of personality and wins people over wherever she goes. She already comes running when I call "KIT-TEN" so I need to find a name ASAP before that sticks. We prefer 2 syllable names and although I've come up with a long list, nothing seems to quite capture her energy, sweetness, spunkiness etc.
Help!
