Beautiful shot! I took a couple of a spider at my brother's home. Spiders are just amazing to me

Sorry for the hijack! Never thought I would get a chance to share this

What a great shot!

You know, I think my own lack of fear of spiders came from a very early reading of E.B. White's Charlotte's Web. From then on, spiders were Good Guys...

She hasn't been in her web for a few days so I think she must have crawled somewhere and died.
I'll be happy when her babies come in the Spring.
I hope a few hang around.

Awww, I'm sorry about that -- what kind of spider, if you know, was she? I love spiders, too -- there aren't too many of us out there, are there? Hopefully she is leaving a lasting legacy and you will be the proud surrogate mom of a clowder of spiderlings (or whatever a whole family group of spiders might be called!) Let us know, won't you?

She was a banded garden spider. Her webs were gorgeous, she would tear down and build every night. I have old posts of her and her egg cacoon. The cacoon one is more recent and the one of just her is older.

I'm personally terrified of spiders. But recently I've determined to start what I call a "spider tolerance policy" and at a minimum let them be, even if I didn't like them much. A month or so ago, though, I had a really cool-looking spider take up residence outside our garage door, near the light. It seemed to me to be a pretty smart place for a spider to live because the light would attract bugs. She spun some really beautiful webs. I named her Charlotte, and she lived there happily for several weeks, then died. A few weeks later, another spider of the same variety, but smaller, moved in. I assume it had to be a child of Charlotte's. My niece named him Fred. He disappeared a week or so ago.

I'm still a long way from liking spiders, but I have to admit that I grew a bit fond of these two. I'm looking forward to seeing if we have more descendents move in next spring.

I have no idea what kind of spider they were, but I'm going to have to check out banded garden spiders. They did have stripes, and they did have beautiful webs, and they did seem to build new ones every night. (I thought the wind or something just kept destroying them.)

When my spider left her web recently I thought she was dead. It turns out she just crawled down toward the bottom of the house. I can't believe she's still alive!!!! I took pictures but I won't be able to post them untill tomorrow because I brought the wrong USB cable over to my moms.
