Some of you may remember back in early May, I put in an offer for a Co-op here on Long Island.
Those who don't know what a Co-op is.. here's a good page: http://manhattan.about.com/od/findanapartment/a/condoscoopsnyc.htm
In brief, I don't "own" the property- I own shares of stocks for the property. It's more work to get into one of these.
During the months, there was a lot of back and forth, waiting for the package application, filling out the daunting application and preparing every ounce of my financials and living history. Gave it to the lawyer- he gave me the OK to deliver it..
The package application required every, and I mean EVERY financial information (my charge statements, bank and check statements, any loans, credit check), they also required proof of my job and stability, along with my annual pay. They also wanted 2 years of my taxes W2 forms. In addition, I had to get 6 letter of references, between my jobs and my apartment property manager. They wanted to know everything, including what I pooped out in my underwear. I had to put these carefully organized in 3 different binders.
This is extremely nerve-wracking to give all this personal information to a bunch of strangers!
I can understand why.. they want a stable person who can pay the monthly fees. Since we're paying in cash, and between me and my dad (who's co-owner with me), we're financially stable.
Come the interview- they'll want to know what type of person I am. They want to make sure I won't be disturbing the neighbors (no loud instruments, no parties every night, etc), and want to make sure I am clean (not an alcoholic or anything). I have no issues here.
The above makes sense- I wouldn't want to be living next to someone who's a complete slob, partying all night and can't maintain their finances.
And the package was delivered yesterday to the Co-op board. Now I wait to hear from them, whether they want to schedule an interview with me or not. I am not going to have any fingernails left after this!
I've done all I can do up until this point and I am nervous! It's been a very stressful few months with everything I had to do. It was like pulling teeth with these people too. I hope the board reviews my package application and call me in for an interview fast! I want to know if I am approved so I can officially start preparations to move by the end of August as I aim to have my closing date for July 30th.
The people of TCS, I really could use your vibes! I know how powerful they are!
Oh, this is the Co-op, if anyone's curious. I will be doing a bit of work to make it my style!
