Thank you for that. As you correctly remember, Ally was almost dead when I first found her after being abandoned by her mother (feral cat) and would have been dead probably within 24 hours if I hadn't responded to her distressed cries for her mother. Also, from my understanding, the OP rescued this cat. He did not go searching for a cat while he was living in this situation. She was in bad condition and he nursed her back to health, coming here. I think the OP should be comended for his care of Ally, not criticized.
What is encouraging, is that last night, she started to show a desire to play again when I went to pet her. I couldn't let her play unfortunately as it would risk making her injury worse right now so she had to settle for me sitting with her petting her and rubbing her belly (which I'm happy to say she started to pur after only a short while).
She's with the specialist right now. I took her over very early this morning and didn't give her the 3AM pain med dose so that the specialist could get an accurate idea of her pain level. I told the specialist that as soon as she saw what kind of pain Ally is in, to give her something strong pain-med wise. The specialist agreed that she would, and would also sedate Ally to get full X-rays of her neck and head. Also the specialist will be consulting a second specialist nearby. How is Ally today? Did the specialist see her?
I got all of Ally's medical records from Saturday's visit to the animal hospital faxed over to the specialist.
I had to leave unfortunately to (ironically) see a doctor for my own herniated disk.
Ally right now should be sedated and getting X-rays. I have one more doctor's appointment I need to make (also for my herniated disk) and then I'm headed back to sit with Ally until they're done.
I've also requested that they change her pain medication to something that doesn't get absorbed via the gums of her mouth b/c Ally starts licking when I give her the medication somewhat lessening the effect.
I should know in a few hours whether she has a fracture or herniation, or just a bad bruise.
Also encouraging is that I noticed this morning that even without pain meds, the neurological symptoms seemed to be lessening.
As soon as I know the diagnosis, I will let you all know.
Yeah. It's terribly stressful. I would rank this as stressing me more than the LSAT did or applying to law school did.I know how hard it is to see a cat in distress..
Prior to the injury, I was worried about whether or not I'd get in to any more top 20 law schools. Now, I don't care. I picked one out of the schools I got in to (U Minnesota Twin Cities Law) and I just want Ally better. If I get into any other top law schools - great.... otherwise, I don't care as much about the application process as I do about getting Ally better.
