I am wondering if anyone has any information about giving AHCC to cats?

If so, what is the dose for a 10# cat?

Thanks!

For what reason do you want to give it to your kitty?

It seems that AHCC (Active Hexose Correlated Compound) is typically used for the immune-compromised, such as cats with cancer or FIV.

I did a quick search on TCS and found this thread:

Granted, I really do not know anything about using AHCC for cats and would definitely suggest that you discuss it with a holistic vet.

thanks for your reply!

my 15.5 year old kitty has been getting sinus infections, and I would like to try AHCC to help boost her immune system.

she is not an FIV kitty.

she was a feral kitten and has HSV flares, which is likely related to the sinus infections.

our vet had no idea what AHCC was.

When you say "HSV", do you mean feline herpes virus (FHV)?

Some people here on TCS use Lactoferrin as an immune booster for upper respiratory issues and FHV in conjuction with l-lysine. I only use l-lysine for my cats since they all gave FHV, and I have used Vetri-DMG in the past as an immune booster for my one cat during a major flare.

Here's a thread that may be of interest: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/267703/stubborn-herpes-infection-add-lactoferrin-in-addition-to-lysine

Welcome to TCS, by the way!

The suggested dosing for AHCC for cats of all sizes  is 0.5 to 1 gram daily according to the free downloadable Patient's Guide to AHCC at their research website.

Just a thought that the dose could be divided in to two servings when mixed with wet food. A 500mg. capsule could be easily opened and used in this manner.

This info was found on page 68 of the Patient's Guide.
