MERRY CHRISTMAS Katie & Kitties! My former feral, Elsa, really LOVES chasing a laser light. She's totally the best at it - probably because she had to catch her own food before.

Thank you kluchetta from all of us. I'll bet Elsa looks adorable playing with that light!

I was planning a trip today and I left the cats a dog-sized bowl of food. The same amount I've been leaving for them. Then the trip was canceled. I have an awful earache, so I never went back out to check on them. I'm sure they missed me, but I really feel bad.

no roll call today

Everyone but Mamie amd Red were waiting for me tonight. I think they were very happy to have their celebration walk to the feeding bench.

After I fed them, I walked around looking for "hide in plain sight" places for the shelters. I saw a few. I realize now that they also have to be out of the muiddy spots when it rains.

A lot of the cats were following me. I love the way cats follow. They're here, they're there, but always with you. Lady Day stayed fairly close, but Louie, Alfie, and Josesito were winding there way around me, too.

Roll Call: Alfie, Blackie, Dude, Henry, Josesito, Lady Day, Louie, Mamie, Oscar, Sneakers. 10 total.

I'm sorry I didn't post last night. Thank you kluchetta for your good wishes. I have an ear infection and last night I just fed the cats rather early came in and took my medicine, and stuff for pain and to sleep and I was out until 7 this morning.

My kitties were waiting at the front door tonight. Being all furry and funny with their tails up and waving like flags.

I called all their names as we walked.

I checked the shelters again and they all seem to be used. Two seem a bit warmer than the other two. I must have insulated them better. I saw my only non-neutered boy, Henry, spraying on one shelter, so I guess that one's his.

It was a good, fine night. All eleven of my kittie-cats showed up tonight, including the elusive Red and Mamie.

The rest of us celebrated our good luck in having each other with the Calling of the Names Ceremony back to the bench.

It was cold tonight -- just enough to bother my ears so I came right back inside.

Mamie showed up again tonight and spent some time watching me as I talked to her. She's such an attractive little tuxedo tabby. I wish I could sooth her anxieties and make her life easier.

There was a strange-looking substance at the place on the sidewalk where I usually put their food. I poured most of their food by the rec bldg, but decided it was just beaded water from someone wetting the grass earlier that I was seeing.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!

The first night of 2008. I went out about an hour early and caught the group off-guard. They weren't at the door, yet. Just sauntering and playing on the grass. Alfie was playing by some trees.

Then they saw me! The excitement! They came running from three directions and Sneakers jumped off the rec bldg!

I called everyone's name and poured out the food. I've been giving them extra now, because they seem hungrier since it got cold. It's windy tonight, too. I'm so glad they've got their shelters.

My kitties were all waiting near the feedng bench tonight. We had a little name-calling then they settled down to crunch.

It was warm and nice out tonight and I sat back on the wall while they ate. Sneakers joined me for awhile. When I went back to the bench Dude jumped up for a little pet -- but only a little -- he pulled back when we got an electric shock!

Also had another Mamie sighting. She sat back from the bench on the sidewalk waiting for the other cats to finish before she ate. I wanted to have a conversation with her and she sat still listening, but Louie wanted to escort me back to the door and she was disturbed by his presence.

Louie is so cute. He seems to really love me, but he will never let me get closer than about four feet. He is chubby but has delicate white feet. He loves to drop and roll when I call his name, like he's showing off the roundness of his tummy!

They're sandbagging in Malibu -- afraid those burnt out hills will become mudslides in the expected rain tonight.

I left my cats' food in the big dog-sized bowl under the rec bldg overhang. I hope they're smart enough to take refuge in their little boxes.

I left their food early because I had errands this evening, so the roll call is short.

Oh don't worry about me. It's the wealthy people that live in Malibu. When their houses are messed up they go and stay in nice hotels until their insurance comes through and they can fix up their places.

Oh gosh, do I sound cynical.

I live far away from Malibu. Almost as far as you can go and still be in L.A. For us it's just a little much needed rain.

Well, it didn't start raining until this afternoon in my neighborhood. Supposed to rain all night and all weekend.

My little cats were so frustrating tonight! I went out early thinking they would be all snuggled up in their boxes, but no!

there they were hunched up under the feeding bench and beside the rec bldg getting all wet and miserable. Everything seemed to be wet, even the little spot where I usually leave their food when it rains. I was going to put their food in the dog dish, but it was wet too. I had to walk around to the porched over part of the rec bldg and only Louie, Lady Day, Dude and Oscar would follow me.

Josesito, Sneakers, Blackie, a very wet and grumpy Henry, and Alfie insisted on staying at the usual rainy day feeding place. Blackie let me pick him up and carry him to the food. Then, smart boy that he is, he stayed under the roof where it was dry.

Too dumb to come in out of the rain! I guess it's because it really doesn't rain often here and they just haven't developed coping skills for it. I brought one of their shelters to the space near the rec bldg for them. Maybe they will figure it out once I'm gone and they realize they're not going to talk me into leaving the food where they're used to it.

Roll Call: Alfie, Blackie, Dude, Henry, Josesito, Lady Day, Louie, Oscar, Sneakers Total 9

I had a lot of errands to do today, so I left the cats food in the dog dish. Rain was predicted (hasn't happened) so I left it in a cardboard box that was next to the rec bldg. When I got home some had been eaten, but the cats were there waiting for me to come.

I just moved the bowl to their usual spot. My poor cats are so confused. They're no more used to rainy weather than the rest of us.

It's raining again tonight. I went down early with the idea of putting the food in the dog dish I left last night. But the dog dish was gone. Someone took it I guess. I shouldn't have left it out all day.

The area under the rec bldg overhang was dry, though, so I left the food there. I'm glad I went early or they would have gathered in the rain, waiting for me. I hope they eat and get back inside their little boxes or wherever they are keeping dry until it quits raining long enough for them to come out and stretch their legs and get a bite to eat.

Roll Call: Dude, Josesito, Lady Day, Louie 4 Total

Went out at 10pm and there were Josesito and Louie huddled up by the rec bldg --- grrrrrrr, it's so frustrating! And little Alfie was in the cardboard box! Then comng back, Blackie runs out from under the stairs meowing, and follows me back to the food -- well at least he was hungry and under the stairs is out of the wind and rain. But why aren't they cuddled up in their insulated plastic boxes like I mean for them to be?

All my little fuzzies and me glad that it's not raining at dinnertime tonight.

Although the weathercasters on TV showed three storns approaching us, from east, north and west. For all that, they're not expecting much rain for us. Just cold.

Even Red showed up tonight. I poured food out near the feeding bench and then in the rec bldg spot. Henry was the only one that headed to the rec bldg spot. To my surprise Red, who must have been very hungry, joined him. The two boys on the bottom of the pecking order, seemed to be able to share peacefully.

Roll Call: Alfie, Blackie, Dude, Henry, Josesito, Lady Day, Louie, Oscar, Red, Sneakers. 10 Total.
