Alayna, What do you think of it - my BF thinks it looks cheap and will break easily and is gimmicky because of the tony little adverts... but I liked it the most from the ones we looked at. he thinks we should spend more on a different brand one because obviously its better because it costs more... but then he was also going to buy a $200 punching bag

I'm interested too! A few months ago I was looking at getting a top of the line eliptical at about $3000 after taxes and warrenties and stuff. The sales staff had me pretty convinced that that's what I needed because of my weight/bad knees...that was until I realized that at close to 300lbs it'd be pretty hard to move when I finally get my own apartment. Every once in awhile I think about getting a cheaper and therefore smaller and lighter model for "until I get my own house and settle down"...but then it could be argued that I could just get a gym membership!

Kaleetha: I like them because they have so much less impact on my knees than a tredmill AND I don't get shin-splints when I use them because it's more about using your legs than the step (I have a really bad step with flat arches). I find I can go farther and faster with an elipitical than I can with anything else, and the difference in calories adds up! Also, they're pretty darn quiet machines, so if you're at home you don't need to turn the tv WWAAAAY up AND on some of them you can adjust the angle of your step to work different muscles. I like em

I got a cheapo pedometer yesterday, it will be interesting what it tells me today. Every step is one towards our goals!

Well, The one that I bought was al little under a hundred...and it works fine....now after a couple of months it might start making noise while you are on it...but you can usually buy something to coat it with...I dont mind the noise because I listen to music or watch tv..and I can hear fine....It works fine for me...when I first started using it i lost about 10 to 15 pounds...then I stop because I was really busy...but I am starting back up again and its a good part of my workout....

if you go to Amazon.com you can do a search on the one you are looking at and you can find reviews...

Ahh... I wasn't trying to bash, just wanted to be enlightened. Thank you!

Yesterday was my 5th workout in a row (that's good for someone who hasn't worked out since highschool in gym class... ) Going again tonight.... Think I might take a break on Sunday. I have two and 1/2 hours of dance class, had an 1 1/2 hour today and 1 1/2 yesterday.

It's ballroom so the hours you put in are different than say ballet... but I practice alot. You know how many weird looks you get for doing the tango in the supermarket? Not to mention the rumba (cause you move your hips a lot).

This is what they are doing (but I am sure it can be modified to be longer etc):
I have just discovered this...is it too late to join. I would be loosing wieght and exercising. I only want to loose about 3 or 4 kg. Need to really get back to exercise though.

so assuming I can join, my goals will be
1. Loose 4 kg
2. Exercise 30 min a day
3. Join a tennis group.

Of course it's not too late! We just mostly support each other. I keep having non-exercise days! I exercise at work and have been too busy for the past 3 days.

Oh don't worry, I didn't think you were bashing. Sorry if I came off that I thought you were.
Good for you! thats a whole lot of exercise! I admit that apart from the odd walk around a store or earlier this week to and from work, I haven't exercised. I'd love to start dance class again, but the local civic center only offers bellydancing and hiphop for those of us without dates. I took the bellydancing last year, and don't like the teacher much. Is ballroom fun?? I bet the rumba would be lots of giggles

I was trying to apologize if I had given offense. What a mix up!

Ballroom is SOOOOOO much fun (can you tell I like it!!!) Rumba (I just started learning this one recently) has this kind of crazy "figure 8" movement with your ribs and hips.

Do you have a college or university near you? Sometimes they offer different kinds of dance classes. Or you might check out the gyms near you to see if they offer classes. I'm taking my dance classes through an athletic club.

Walking is an awesome exercise for you though! I'm kind of jealous of your bellydancing and hip hop classes, though. I've always wanted to take them.

Here's a link if you want to look at the steps for ballroom. I'd recommend American style as it is a bit easier to understand (and more fun!)

My bad... I had my first chocolate bar in 16 days today
that will have to be my treat for the week.

We are going again to look at ellipticals tonight until we find one we both agree on - we looked at all the gyms around here but would like one we can go to together and the two that are unisex, one has a really bad reputation and the other is out of our price range and a bit too advanced for me anyway - its more classes than just a work out place

How is everyone else doing?

I'm doing pretty well. My scale was down 2lbs this weekend, and even though I know it could be water, I'm still happy with the results. I did have a hand made truffel today. Can't resist the dang things! Just one though, so I figure all's not lost.
Good luck with the search!

Hi everybody!
I have been away for so long...I am truly sorry. I have been feeling crappy, and also busy. It sounds like many of you are moving forward towards goals...YAY!! Keep it up!!! And one piece of choc. or candy every once in while probably won't hurt, if you can keep it to one.
I have been on a bit of an adventure myself. I have discovered that a lot of my compulsive eating and sugar cravings are due to a systemic yeast infection. Yeast has apparently populated my digestive tract pretty densely. Anyway, I've been taking some steps to kill the yeast off, and my sugar cravings are GONE. All of a sudden, I LIKE vegetables! It's kind of like south beach, in the way that I can't have bread, no sugar, nothing with yeast, and low-gluten foods only. Actually, after over a week, I'm not missing these things too much.

I felt crappy for a while, but now I'm feeling really good! Who would have thought that yeast had such a hold on me? The medical community doesn't even acknowledge that yeast can be a body-wide infection! This had been crazy!

PM me if you want more info. on this stuff. I think we all might have some issue with it, it's just how bad it is.

It wasn't just one it was a big bar

I don't think I could live without bread and potatoes etc - but would be glad for some info, if it helps I might be able to make myself cope

I watched on Good Mornign America that you are supposed to eat like 3 squares of DARK chocolate a day (100 calories worth). it is supposed to be good for you. i think i can handle that one!

I havent worked out all weekend as i was afraid to leave the house. 3 convicts escaped from a local prison. Armed and dangerous. All murderers. 1 was captured. the 17 yr old and the 19 yr old are still on the loose. one of them killed a 2 yr old little girl.
but i am going today... on the military base i work on so it is safe here!

Well...I weighed in today and I lost another pound or so.
That's the good news.

The bad news is that I still haven't been able to drag my butt to the gym to get back in the swing of working out. Why is it so hard for me to get going on this? I've promised myself I'll make it there at least one day this week.

That's scary. I wouldn't want to leave either.

I've been working out consistantly but lately have felt a little tired. I've been trying to drink enough water and eat all the right vegies... but still feel kind of fatigued. I think I'm getting enough sleep... between 6 - 8 hours a night. It could be that my body is in shock from all the exercise it's getting.

Any ideas anyone?

I think its the weather - everyone I know feels a bit fatigued at the moment - we are trying our best not to survive only on coffee/tea and candy and get some fresh air

i was taking green tea pills and they seem to work. and they dont taste that bad either. Today is workout day for me. yesterday it rainded all day and all night but the convicts were captured (less than 5 minutes from where i work
but atleast they are caught) so i can either walk here or at home. probably here though. more relaxing not having to carry mace and a big stick!

Oh yea and this morning was the weigh in! i gained 1 1/2 pounds. do you lose points for that?! i dont know how it happened! ugh!
