I took Mittens again for a possible UTI the day before Thanksgiving and the vet gave me some medicine for it. Mittens was doing better until yesterday, I noticed him squatting and trying to pee. He went to the box a few times and tried, and he finally went. But, I sensed something else wrong, so I took him to the vet and she gave me antibiotics. We got home about an hour ago from being gone since yesterday, and I noticed he went about 3-4 times and pooped. But, he is still straining. And, he won't let me pick him up and he is hissing at me. Could use some good vibes...I am going to be taking him back in the morning, I just think something else is wrong with him.

I would strongly recommend not waiting until morning. He may have a urinary blockage. Not only is this extremely painful, but it is fatal if it is not treated very quickly. Please take him to the nearest 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital immediately.

Candie, he doesn't want you to pick him up for a couple of reasons. One he doesn't feel good, and picking him up will put pressure on already overtaxed organs. Two- the last time you picked him up he had to go to the vet which was probably not a fun time for him. And he is scared understandably so. The antibiotics will help if he does have a UTI is he taking the meds okay?

I took Mittens to the emergency clinic about 8 hours ago...I was just too worried about him. Luckily, he didn't have a blockage, but he does have crystals and blood in his urine. The vet there was just amazing. We are watching him close by and I have to encourage him to drink lots of water and I will have to change foods. Poor little guy sure was feeling much better after we got home, and I was too since I got atleast 3 hours of sleep last night....yuck. He's my child though, so I am not going to let the lack of sleep bother me. The vet recommends me to put him on Science Diet C/D, but I am going to have to work something out with my vet because this lady said that this food is high in calories and I sure don't want him gaining back the pounds he lost. I'll keep you guys updated.

MA~he is taking his antibiotics very well.

I hope Mittens is soon feeling better, Candie. Is his special diet available in a light form?
P.S. I just checked the Hill's site - it isn't.

Things got a lot worse in the last 12 hours....

He is now in the hospital, they took him quickly and now is sedated and has a cathater (sp?)...to release his full bladder. They are having to give him antibiotics and will keep him a few days. He said that if this doesn't clear out the blockage they will have to go and do surgery to turn him into a "girl" basically so he doesn't continue to get this blockage. I am very upset and don't know what to do. I've already maxed out 2 credit cards with him with this issue. I don't know what to do if he has to have surgery...I just don't know what to do you guys!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, I am so heartbroken right now.
I am use to hearing him purr right next to my head while I study for my finals...but not tonight
Watson is keeping my feet warm though. I just really hope he doesn't have to have surgery!! Please pray that they can fix this all by the end of the week.
