I don't reccomend staying either. I grew up in FL and was evacuated countless times. Take your cats, anything un-replaceable (heirlooms, expensive jewelry, artwork) and pack em up in your car. Also take with you: insurance papers, passports, any other important pieces of documentation you may need. As for the rest of your stuff, get some burly guy to put plywood on your windows (your landlord is actually probably responsible for that) and take all of your clothes and other stuff you're leaving behind and put them as high up in the apartment as you can--top shelf of a closet, on top of kitchen cabinets. Anything on the floor will be a loss if you get water in your apt. Oh, and take all perishables out of your fridge and freezer so as not to come home to a really smelly house infested with rodents and bugs
Now, GET THE HECK OUTTA THERE! and keep us posted!
