Yeah, we still have it, already got the email. I think it will be fine though. I'll leave well before the storm. Its so strange to think that its hitting in just a few days, it was so sunny outside today! Doesn't feel like a horrible storm is brewing right off the coast.

Yes, I'm just worried you'll get caught in traffic on Friday day. If it were me, I'd make sure you have all your valuables and enough clothes and essentials (for you and the kitties) for a couple of weeks. Category 5 hurricane? This could be a nightmare.

Personally, I'd skip the meeting and get out!!!! This storm is HUGE!!! I've lived on the gulf coast my entire life and I know that you do not wait to leave. The traffic will be horrific and the road is the LAST place you want to get stranded.

Please leave now. I'm 3 hours on the east side and heading our tomorrow to go at least another hour east and if it turns, I'll continue north east.

Please stay safe, and remember that most people drown in hurricanes so don't take this lightly.

It'd be really really late by the time I got home, and as tired as I get through the week with grad school stuff, I'd rather not drive at night if I can help it. Not to mention they've moved the A&M game to Thursday, so the traffic probably won't be pretty. I'll definately be taking my basket of not-yet-folded clothes that I washed at home this past weekend with me.
The boys and I will be at my parents' house, so most of the essentials will already be there. I think there won't be that much bad damage in College Station, it just won't be a pleasant place to be while this storm hits.

Sweetie--PLEASE, if you can get out sooner, get out! The traffic is always horrific, at the last minute, and I know in Florida last year, that people who left at the last minute, when the hurricane turned in direction... Well, they were turned back to go back home, as the roads were too dangerous to be sitting out on......
I am just worried about you! (and a lot of others too!)
Hurricane direction is NOT an exact science, and also, the speed it picks up is not exact either. So, we can PROPOSE what can and may go on, but we do not know for sure, no matter how sophisticated our equipment seems to get!
TAKE CARE, and STAY SAFE!

The storm is now expected to hit the Galveston and Houston area. Get out as soon as you can and stay safe!

Please get out of there ASAP! I just rode out Ophelia, and it was terrifying, a category 1. Rita is a 5! The first time I rode out a huricane, I had never been anywhere near one, and it was one of the most terrifying nights of my life. I huddled in my closet and prayed that it would not bring the house down around me. It was a 3, followed 3 weeks later by a high 4. I did not think it could be any scarier than the first one, but I was wrong. Not to mention the danger after it is over. Please take you kits and RUN!!!!!!!!!

It will be a Category 1 by the time that it hits College Station, according to the estimations. I will definately be getting out soon, though I know many people who are staying here, not to mention lots of people from Houston are evacuating here, because its definately safer here than there. I'm going to attempt to leave after my meeting tonight, though I'm leery of leaving too late because I have a tendency to start dozing off behind the wheel when its late and I'm tired. There's also a big game here tonight (moved from Saturday) so I'm trying to decide if that will make traffic worse or better. If not tonight, I will leave early in the morning. Can't skip the meeting since this is my job and a class rolled in one. Its the meeting where we go over the stuff we're teaching next week, so I have to be there. Thank you all so much for your concern and advice!

Looks like asking our TA instructor to move the meeting earlier may have worked. As long as all of the TAs can meet at 3:30, that's when we'll have the meeting, and I can get out of here earlier. Whoop to that!

Make sure your vehicle is full of gas also incase you are stuck in traffic. Take all your prized possesions too.

Good advice, apparently gas is extremely hard to find in Houston right now. Not only that, they've opened all six lanes of Hwy. 45 to Buffalo for refugees from Houston - that's the route I normally take. So I'm going to take a different route that isn't used as often and I hope I miss the worst of the congestion. Anyone have any ideas on how I should prepare my aparment before I go?

Just grab what you can't live without, ur furbabies, lock ur apt then just get the HECK out of there... PLEASE................

Another option- prepare everything BEFORE you go to the meeting, load up ur car with stuff and ur furbabies then just leave DIRECTLY from the meeting to get out of town? That might help with traffic?

Thats a good idea, make sure to take plenty of water for you and your furbabies just in case its a longer trip than you expected (with the traffic)...food too!! Make sure your cell phone is charged and you have a charger in your car with you. Just prepare for the worst possible senario...that way you will be all prepared for your drive.

How far of a drive will you be making??

I wouldn't worry about the apartment. It will either survive, or not. Take the necessities with you, and enough food and water for you and the kits for the trip in case you are stuck in traffic. I heard it is taking 12 hours to get from Galveston to Houston. And I would guess that most of those people are going to keep heading north since this is such a big hurricane.

Prayers that it blows itself out before it hits land, for the sake of all the people and animals living in Texas! (I heard winds of 20-30 miles over the level of a category 5. Is there such a thing as a cat 6?)

I'm so glad you are leaving! Stay safe!
