I just found this thread for the first time. I am sad, angry, frustrated and hopeful all at the same time. I'm glad to hear that casmo is doing a little better each day, and it sounds like you are taking great care of her.

As a fellow Canadian, I find this soooo frustrating! Even with gun 'control' laws, there are always wack-jobs out there who wish to harm animals and/or other people, and they will always find a way to do it. I've only heard a few stories like this, and they've taken place in remote, northern Canada areas, hunting areas, etc. Where do you live? Has there been any progress on the criminal investigation into the guy the did this to casmo? Is your family going to sue him as well?

Me and my kitties are sending our hugs and warm wishes to casmo. Keep us updated.

Great news! It looks like she's healing nicely. Continue to look forward to her improving each day.Question. Are they going to wait until she's stronger to deal with the bullets? The one embedded in the vertebrae could be a tricky one depending on how deeply it's embedded.

I'm so happy that she is doing better. I've been checking a couple times a day just to check on her. I'm so happy. Now you need to get your case together and sue his pants off. I know thats more of a US thing but, in you case you need to have someone pay for the vet bills etc... Do you have a small claims court there in Canada? How about the Humane Society? Are they going to investigate this? I'm just so mad at people not caring for animals or even respect in that case. Well, more happy healing thoughts. Love, Hope

I sent a prayer up to St. Francis of Assisi (even though I'm not catholic), and asked that your furbaby get all the love, care, and health that Cas can handle, and that you and your family are strong and helped through this. And that the cops find, prosecute, and jail this SOB.

This post reminded me of something and I wanted to ask Casmos' meowmy if maybe in private message you can give me your address. I have something from the church that I want to send to Casmo. It is a St. Francis of Assisi metal. If you would like it. Just let me know.

the police is going around trying to find proof if casmo did get shot by my neighbour but no one actualy saw him shooting at anyone (including my cat) so its pretty tough. i even tried to find a bullet in my yard.
I dont know whats going to happen with the bullets my local vet wasnt traind for that kind of stuff so we would have to go to guelph, and there is a chance of damaging the spinal cord even more if we were to get it out. decisions, decision
.
i live in ontario.

oh wow... you live close to me! I grew up near Waterloo, and now I'm in Mississauga.

There's obviously a risk associated with removing the bullets, especially near the spinal cord. I think if it was me, I'd get a 2nd vet's opinion on the risks and options for Casmo, especially since the vet you talked to doesn't have full training in these types of things. At least then I would feel that I had better information to make a decision on.

Still sending good vibes...

I'm so thrilled that Cosmo seems to be doing better. With all the good care and loving you're giving her--as well as encouraging thoughts and comments from TCS--how could she not do better? Hopefully, this will be a thing that will get better with time. And if some of the resources mentioned for financial aid come through, that should also help.

I'm probably repeating some things others have said, but if a vet decides to remove some of the shot, by all means have him get them to you. If the shot can be matched to your neighbor's gun, a court should find that good evidence.

Be sure to save and copy all vet bills in event of a possible court case.

I hope Cosmo continues to improve!!

First, I'm so sorry that that terrible person did that to Casmo!

I would try putting some "stinky" juice from a can of tuna on top of her food. Something that will really trip her sense of smell...
