That is such a bummer Kellye
I'm sorry we won't get a chance to meet you on this go-round, but I know you're looking forward to returning to NZ

Savannah is about 4-5 hours from Orlando and Tampa is about 1.5 hours from Orlando (Is that right Katherine).
That'd be REALLY cool to have a beachy TCS meet-up!
I definitely agree about beaches on FL Gulf Coast. We go to Panama City Beach quite often. (that's probably a bit too far for folks ) We LOVE it there b/c the beach has sugar white sand, the water is beautiful and the weather is great and fantastic restaurants galore!! My vote is just for somewhere "beachy", even if it isn't a cat related destination, we will make it one with all of our photo albums, stories about our babies, etc. I'm Kool and the Gang with whatever the majority rules on!

Being a born and raised East coast Florida baby, I much prefer it to the west coast Florida beaches. To me, the West coast water is far too salty and there's not enough action in the water (i.e. waves, etc)! I love body surfing and swimming through the rough water and really don't like it when I'm by the Gulf and the water is far too salty to swim in. Wherever we go is fine by me (even any beach, as I'm spoiled with beaches year round). I can make it anywhere in Florida and/or Georgia. SaveTheKitties is right, Cocoa is the nearest beach to Orlando at half an hour. You're right also Amy, Tampa is between an hour and an hour and a half away from here.

Oh so now it's a war of East Coast (beaches) vs. West Coast (beaches). Oh it's ON Katherine!!!!

Has to be on a weekend regardless, for me. I think August would be best for me, as I can schedule time off from work and save for a ticket, if I can even go

I think July is a little short notice. Late August would probably be the earliest I could make it. Is that still too soon for most folks? I know many of us have to set aside the money and time. Although it seems like only 4 of us are seriously discussing this

Ok, I live in Tampa, and the east coast beaches win hands down with me. The Gulf doesn't compare to the Atlantic. The only thing these days, at least in areas like New Smyrna Beach or Daytona, is that these beaches took a pretty severe beating in last season's hurricanes.

Now, if we are talking August, it will definitely have to be a weekend, as my summer will be long over, and I will be back at work.

You tell em Deb!!!!!!!!!!

Though, thankfully, both New Smyrna and Daytona Beach are looking MUCH better. Being from just north of Daytona I was pretty sad about the beach erosion and building damage. Let's hope this hurricane season isn't as bad.

All I can say is this: come up to Savannah and spend a day at Tybee Beach....then you'll see why I say
WEST SIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDE!!!!
As far as dates go, mid-late August would be the earliest I could do it, too (can't leave town b/c I'm on-call 24/7 until they hire another advocate here
). But I'm pretty flexible after that!

Hopefully I can make it. Tampa is perfect. I am going to New Port Richey, Clearwater and Gulf Port which are all in that area.

Please let me know when you decide a date.

See, for me, a beach is just not a beach without some action in the water. There needs to be waves or else it just looks like a lake. You guys should come see Ormond Beach sometime and you'll know why I adore the east side so much.
